16-YEAR-OLD GIRL SHOT IN THE HEAD WHILE WAITING FOR SCHOOL BUS AFTER BOY ALLEGEDLY THREATENED HER: “FIGHT THEM OR I’M GOING TO SHOOT YOU”
A 16-year-old Kentucky high school student was simply waiting for her school bus when a confrontation with two teenagers turned deadly. According to police, the boy allegedly demanded that she fight another girl, threatening to shoot her if she refused. When the teenager tried to run away, he allegedly opened fire, striking her in the head.

The victim, Dannady Greene, later died from her injuries, leaving her family and community devastated. Now, two teenagers are facing serious charges in connection with her death, as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, Tayon Hassell and Akira Thompson were indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on charges including murder by complicity, tampering with physical evidence by complicity and possession of a handgun by a minor by complicity.
The indictments mark a major development in a case that began on a school morning in Louisville, Kentucky, and ended with the loss of a young student’s life.
A School Morning Turns Into a Deadly Encounter
The shooting occurred on August 25 at approximately 8 a.m. near Beech Street and Wyandotte Avenue in Louisville.
Greene, who attended Valley High School, was waiting at a bus stop when a vehicle reportedly approached the area. According to a witness cited by police, two teenagers got out of the vehicle and appeared to be looking for a fight.
Greene’s family later told local television stations that she had been experiencing an ongoing problem with another girl.
But when the teenagers allegedly confronted Greene, she reportedly made it clear that she did not want to fight.
According to the witness account described in the police investigation, the situation escalated when the boy allegedly loaded a handgun and threatened Greene, telling her that she had to fight the other teenagers or he would shoot her.
The threat transformed an already frightening confrontation into a potentially deadly situation.
Greene reportedly attempted to escape by running away. Police allege that Hassell then fired several shots, striking her in the head.
What should have been an ordinary morning before the start of school became a nightmare for Greene’s loved ones, who would soon learn that the teenager had been critically injured.
Teenager Dies Days After Being Shot
After the shooting, Greene was transported to a hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, she died several days later.
Authorities have not publicly detailed every moment between the shooting and her death, but the injuries she sustained proved fatal.
Her death left family members grieving a young girl whose life had been cut short before she had the opportunity to experience the years ahead of her.
The incident also raised serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding the confrontation, particularly the allegation that a dispute involving teenagers escalated into an armed attack at a public school bus stop.
Greene was not reported to have been seeking out a confrontation. According to the witness account cited by police, she said she did not want to fight and tried to flee when the situation became threatening.
Investigators allege that she was shot while attempting to get away.
Surveillance Footage Helps Investigators Track the Suspects
Following the shooting, investigators worked to identify the people involved and trace the vehicle reportedly used to reach the bus stop.
According to police, surveillance cameras captured the suspects’ vehicle traveling north toward Indiana after the shooting.
The Jeffersonville Police Department in Indiana assisted Louisville investigators in locating the vehicle, according to the report.
The investigation ultimately led authorities to Hassell and Thompson, both of whom were teenagers at the time of the shooting.
Thompson, who was 17 at the time, has since turned 18. Hassell was 16 when the shooting occurred and later turned himself in to authorities.
Police have said they would seek to have both suspects charged as adults.
The investigation also resulted in allegations involving the handling of evidence after the shooting. The grand jury indictment includes a charge of tampering with physical evidence by complicity, although the full details of that allegation have not been publicly established in the reporting cited here.
Both defendants are accused of involvement in the case, and the charges remain allegations to be resolved through the legal process.
Family Remembers Dannady Greene
Beyond the criminal investigation, Greene’s death has left her family facing the painful loss of a daughter and loved one.
Her obituary described her as a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, relative, student and friend whose presence brought love and meaning to the people around her.
The tribute emphasized how deeply she was loved by her family and how the memories they shared with her would remain close to their hearts.
For those who knew Greene, her life cannot be reduced to the circumstances of her death. She was a student with family relationships, friendships and a future that her loved ones had hoped to see unfold.
Her death has also underscored the devastating consequences that can follow when a confrontation involving young people becomes violent.
A school bus stop should be a place where students can wait safely to begin their day. In Greene’s case, police allege that a threat involving a demand to fight escalated into gunfire, leaving a teenager critically wounded and ultimately costing her life.
Two Teenagers Face Serious Charges
On October 22, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted Hassell and Thompson on charges connected to Greene’s death.
The charges include murder by complicity, tampering with physical evidence by complicity and possession of a handgun by a minor by complicity, according to reports cited by Law&Crime.
Police have indicated that they intend to pursue adult charges against the suspects. The case will now proceed through the court system, where prosecutors must establish the allegations against each defendant.
The indictments do not constitute findings of guilt, and both defendants are entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty.
For Greene’s family, however, the legal proceedings come after an irreversible loss. A 16-year-old student who was waiting for a school bus is gone, and those who loved her must now face a future without her.
As the case moves forward, investigators and prosecutors will continue working to establish accountability for the events that led to her death.
