A Halloween shopping trip turned into a devastating tragedy in Northern California when a 31-year-old pregnant woman was killed and six other people were wounded in a shooting inside a Spirit Halloween store. The victim was identified as Constance Hages, whose death has left her family grieving while investigators work to establish what happened. The shooting occurred on Friday evening, October 30, 2026, at the Solano Town Center in Fairfield, just as families and shoppers were preparing for Halloween celebrations.

Fairfield police said officers received reports of gunfire at approximately 8:30 p.m. and rushed to the shopping center. Inside the Spirit Halloween store, they found seven people suffering from gunshot wounds. Hages later died from her injuries. Her family informed police that she was pregnant at the time, although authorities said this detail would be confirmed following an examination by the Solano County Coroner. The news made an already devastating loss even more heartbreaking for her loved ones, who were now facing the deaths of both a woman and the child she was reportedly carrying.

The six other victims were men ranging in age from 16 to 43. According to police, a 16-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man and a 32-year-old man remained in critical condition. Another victim, a 23-year-old man, was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Two additional victims, ages 19 and 43, received treatment for their gunshot wounds and were later released from the hospital. Authorities have not publicly released the identities of the injured victims.

Witnesses described a terrifying scene as gunshots rang out inside the store. Shoppers suddenly began running for safety, while employees and customers searched for ways to escape. Some people reportedly fled through an employee hallway, while others forced open a security gate leading back into the mall. One witness told local television station KCRA that the panic was immediate, with people rushing out and families desperately trying to find their loved ones. For those inside the store, an ordinary evening of shopping had become a frightening struggle to get out alive.

Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted incident involving one suspect, according to preliminary information released by the Fairfield Police Department. However, officials have not explained who the intended target may have been or what led to the attack. As of the latest reports, no one had been arrested or detained. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence in an effort to identify the person responsible. The FBI’s Sacramento office is also assisting local investigators with the case.

The shooting prompted the Solano Town Center to cancel its planned Mall-O-Ween trick-or-treating event. Spirit Halloween confirmed that it was cooperating with authorities and that the store would remain closed while the investigation continued. Police urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant photographs, videos or information to come forward. For Hages’s family, however, the investigation cannot undo the loss of a loved one whose life ended during what should have been an ordinary evening. As six injured victims continue their recovery, the community is left waiting for answers about why the violence happened and who was responsible.
