THE COWBOY FOUND HIS WIFE’S LOVE LETTERS HIDDEN UNDER THE FLOOR

PART 1 – THE LETTERS SHE NEVER MEANT HIM TO FIND
For twelve years, Jack Thompson believed his wife was the most faithful woman in the world.
She had stood beside him through poverty, sickness, and the hardships of ranch life. She had given him two beautiful children and never once made him doubt her love.
But one rainy afternoon, while repairing the wooden floor of their bedroom, Jack discovered a small metal box hidden beneath the boards.
Inside were thirty-seven letters.
Every single one was addressed to his wife.
And every single one was signed by a man named William.
The last letter contained a sentence that made Jack’s blood run cold:
My darling Sarah, I still remember the night our son was born. One day, he will learn who his real father is.
The year was 1892, in a quiet frontier town called Red Hollow, Colorado.
Jack Thompson was a forty-year-old cowboy who owned a small ranch outside town. He wasn’t rich, but he had worked hard to build a comfortable home for his family.
His wife, Sarah, was thirty-six. They had been married for twelve years and had two children: Emily, aged ten, and little Ben, aged seven.
To everyone in town, they were the perfect family.
Sarah was known for her kindness. She baked bread for their neighbors, helped care for sick children, and always welcomed Jack home with a warm smile.
Jack trusted her completely.
He never imagined that the woman sleeping beside him every night might be hiding an entire life from him.
One Thursday afternoon, a heavy storm swept across the ranch.
Jack decided to repair a loose floorboard in the bedroom while Sarah took the children into town.
As he lifted the old wooden plank, his hammer struck something metallic.
He knelt down and pulled out a dusty black box.
It was locked, but the wood around it had weakened with age. After a few minutes, the lid finally opened.
Inside were dozens of letters tied together with a faded red ribbon.
Jack picked up the first one.
My dearest Sarah,
I know you miss me as much as I miss you. I wish I could return to Red Hollow, but I cannot risk destroying the life you have built.
Jack frowned.
He opened another.
I still think about the summer we spent together. I remember the promise you made beneath the old oak tree. You told me that no matter what happened, you would never forget me.
The letters continued for years.
Some were romantic. Others were filled with longing and regret.
But the final letter was different.
It was dated just three months earlier.
Sarah,
I have waited twelve years for you to tell Jack the truth.
I am getting older, and I cannot keep living without knowing my own son.
You promised me that one day I would meet him.
I will come to your ranch next Sunday. If you refuse to tell him, I will do it myself.
William.
Jack felt his hands go numb.
His wife had been receiving letters from another man throughout their entire marriage.
But what hurt most was the mention of a son.
Was William talking about Ben?
Or Emily?
Jack suddenly remembered something strange.
Ben had bright blue eyes and dark hair, while everyone in Sarah’s family had brown eyes. Jack had always thought the boy looked different, but he had never questioned it.
Now, every little detail seemed suspicious.
When Sarah returned that evening, Jack was sitting at the kitchen table.
The metal box was beside him.
Sarah stopped in the doorway.
Her shopping bag slipped from her hand.
“Where did you find that?” she whispered.
“Under our bedroom floor.”
She slowly approached the table.
“Jack, please let me explain.”
He looked at her with eyes full of pain.
“Who is William?”
Sarah began to cry.
“He was someone I knew before I met you.”
“Before you met me?”
Jack lifted one of the letters.
“Then why was he writing to you twelve years after we got married?”
Sarah covered her face.
Jack stood up.
“Is Ben his son?”
For a long moment, she said nothing.
Then she whispered:
“Yes.”
The room became unbearably silent.
Jack felt as if someone had driven a knife through his chest.
He had taught Ben to ride horses. He had carried him on his shoulders, held him through nightmares, and proudly watched him take his first steps.
He had loved that little boy as his own.
“Does Ben know?” Jack asked.
Sarah shook her head.
“No. He thinks you’re his father.”
Jack stared at her.
“And what about Emily? Is she mine?”
Sarah began sobbing harder.
“Jack, Emily is yours. I swear.”
But Jack could no longer tell which of her words were true.
He walked outside, unable to breathe inside the house.
Then he noticed a horse tied near the old fence.
A stranger was sitting in the saddle, watching the ranch.
The man was around forty-five, with a weathered face and a scar running down his left cheek.
He removed his hat.
“Evening, Jack.”
Jack stepped toward him.
“Who are you?”
The stranger smiled sadly.
“William Carter. I believe you found my letters.”
Jack’s fists tightened.
“You stay away from my family.”
William looked toward the house.
“I wish I could. But I’ve come for my son.”
Before Jack could answer, the front door opened.
Little Ben ran outside, holding a wooden toy horse.
“Papa! Look what I made!”
The boy stopped when he saw the stranger.
William climbed down from his horse.
He looked at Ben with tears in his eyes.
Then he whispered:
“My boy…”
Ben looked confused.
“Papa, who is that man?”
Jack couldn’t speak.
And from the doorway, Sarah screamed:
“William, don’t you dare tell him!”
William turned toward her.
Then he pulled a second envelope from his coat.
“Sarah, it’s too late. Jack deserves to know what really happened the night Ben was born.”
Jack looked at the envelope.
His name was written across the front.
And beneath it were six words that would change everything:
THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR FIRST SON.
