Wife Allegedly Hid Husband’s Remains in Freezer for Years to Keep Collecting His Benefits
A disturbing discovery in Alaska has raised shocking questions after police said a woman allegedly concealed her husband’s remains inside a locked freezer for years while continuing to collect financial benefits in his name.
The remains of Ross Pasquan, who would have been 74, were discovered on July 19, 2026, when a relative was clearing out the Juneau property following the death of his wife, Sheryl Ann McDonald-Pasquan.
According to police, the remains were found wrapped in a tarp inside a chest freezer located in a locked storage building. Investigators determined that Ross had died of natural causes related to severe cardiovascular disease. Police believe his remains may have been placed in the freezer sometime between 2018 and 2025.
What made the discovery even more disturbing was what investigators uncovered afterward.
Police said Sheryl allegedly continued applying for and receiving benefits in her husband’s name after his death. The payments reportedly included Social Security benefits, Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend payments and retirement benefits. One retirement provider allegedly continued depositing money into Ross’s account even after his death.
For years, people who asked about Ross were reportedly given a different explanation. Witnesses told investigators that Sheryl had said her husband had been moved to a care facility outside Juneau.

Police found no evidence that another person was involved in concealing Ross’s remains or causing his death. Investigators also said Sheryl had been his primary caregiver while he was dealing with significant health problems.
The case came to light only after Sheryl died of natural causes in 2025. Because she was no longer alive, authorities ultimately closed the investigation.
The bizarre case has left relatives and investigators with a haunting question: How could a death remain hidden for so many years while benefits continued to be collected in the deceased man’s name?
