Gunfire Erupts on Busy Costa del Sol Motorway as Suspect Flees in Luxury Audi

A quiet night on Spain’s famous Costa del Sol was shattered when gunfire reportedly erupted on a busy motorway — and the suspected shooter managed to disappear before police could catch up.
The incident happened shortly after midnight Sunday on the AP-7 near Estepona. Emergency services received reports of a collision followed by shots being fired from a vehicle near kilometer 151 of the motorway.

According to reports, the suspect was traveling in an Audi Q8. The vehicle allegedly sped away toward Marbella after the shots were fired, while police patrols attempted to intercept it but were unable to make an arrest.

Remarkably, no injuries were reported, and authorities have not publicly identified who — or what — may have been the intended target. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

The latest incident has added to growing concerns about gun violence along the Costa del Sol. In recent weeks, the Málaga area has seen several separate shooting incidents, including an attack at a restaurant and another case in which a construction worker was fatally shot after reportedly being mistaken for a rival hitman.
Spanish authorities have responded by increasing police checks and strengthening efforts against organized crime in the region. Officials say a new operational plan will bring additional National Police resources to Málaga to combat organized crime and other offenses.

For residents and tourists enjoying one of Spain’s most popular coastal destinations, the latest shooting is another unsettling reminder that a place known for beaches, nightlife and luxury can also find itself caught in a much darker battle.
