Mother Dies and Baby Fights for Life After Horrific Bronx Balcony Fall

A quiet Bronx neighborhood was left shaken Tuesday morning after a 23-year-old mother and her infant daughter plunged from an apartment balcony, leaving the young mother dead and her baby fighting for her life.

Police responded to 2550 Olinville Avenue in the Allerton section of the Bronx at around 3:38 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious incident. Officers found the woman and her baby with injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated position. Both were rushed to the hospital, but the mother later died from her injuries. Her baby girl, who is under 1 year old, remained in critical condition.

What initially appeared to be a tragic fall quickly became the focus of a criminal investigation.

According to police sources cited by NBC News, the mother was holding her baby when the pair were pushed from the balcony. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage that reportedly shows a person wearing a hoodie leaving the area shortly after the incident. Police have not publicly confirmed that the person in the footage is responsible for the fall.

Witnesses also reported hearing a disturbance inside the apartment shortly before the mother and child fell.

Sources told NBC News that detectives are seeking to question the woman’s former boyfriend. Authorities have not named him publicly, and police have not said that he is the person seen leaving the area. No arrest had been announced at the time of the report.

The investigation has also uncovered concerns about the history at the apartment. Police sources said there had previously been reports of domestic violence at the address.

Local residents described a frightening scene in the early hours of the morning. News 12 reported that one witness heard shouting before seeing the woman and baby fall from the building. Other reports indicated that investigators believe the pair fell from a 15th-floor balcony.

For investigators, the central question is now what happened inside that apartment in the moments before the fall.

The young mother did not survive. Her baby remains critically injured.
