Missouri Father Accused of Killing Wife After Allegedly Ordering Children to Help Torture Her

A Missouri father is facing murder and kidnapping charges after authorities say he killed his wife and orchestrated a disturbing attack involving their own children.

Jonathan Houston, 44, has been charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in connection with the death of his wife, whose identity has not yet been publicly released. Investigators say the killing occurred in late 2025 at the Baymont Inn & Suites in Kingdom City, Missouri, roughly 30 miles east of Columbia.

The case came to light nearly a year later after one of Houston’s children secretly called 911.

A Whispered 911 Call Leads Police to a Hotel

According to a probable cause statement, a child called emergency services on the morning of Oct. 4 and quietly told the dispatcher that help was needed. The child allegedly said that Houston had “captured” the children and had been physically abusing them for years.

Authorities traced the cellphone used to make the call to Houston and located him at the hotel, where he was reportedly staying with his seven children.

When deputies arrived, Houston was questioned about the emergency call. During the investigation, one of the girls reportedly made a hand signal to a deputy behind her father’s back, indicating that she wanted to speak privately.

That conversation allegedly opened the door to a much darker account.

The girl told investigators that Houston had killed her mother by strangling her in late 2025. Other children later provided investigators with accounts that authorities say were consistent with one another.

Children Allegedly Forced to Participate

According to investigators, one daughter described witnessing her father get on top of her mother and strangle her with his hands around her neck.

The child also alleged that Houston ordered her to pour hot water onto her mother’s legs while he was strangling her.

Investigators say the strangulation continued for several minutes before the woman stopped moving.

The allegations became even more disturbing when authorities learned that Houston allegedly instructed other children to participate in the attack and attempted to use loud music to conceal what was happening.

According to the charging document, Houston allegedly told the children to play a song from the Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters at a high volume so that their mother’s screams could not be heard.

After the woman died, Houston allegedly placed her body in a fetal position, restrained it with exercise bands and put it inside a large trash bag. Investigators say the body was then taken into a hallway and eventually disposed of in a hotel dumpster.

Investigators Say Houston Admitted the Killing

Authorities say Houston later confirmed significant portions of the children’s accounts during questioning.

According to the probable cause statement, Houston admitted that he had told the children the night before that he planned to kill his wife. He allegedly described getting on top of her while she was lying on the bed and placing his hands around her neck until she became limp.

Investigators also say Houston acknowledged directing the children during the attack and preventing his wife from leaving the room on multiple occasions.

Authorities believe the alleged motive was related to Houston’s fear of losing his children. Investigators said he believed he might lose custody of them.

The sheriff’s office characterized the incident as a premeditated killing in which Houston allegedly “orchestrated his children” to participate.

Former Corrections Officer Now Behind Bars

The allegations are particularly striking given Houston’s reported professional background. According to the charging documents, he previously worked as a probation and parole officer as well as a state corrections officer.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office also said Houston is under investigation in connection with allegations of sexual assault and assault involving other potential victims.

Houston is currently being held at the Callaway County Jail without bond.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the victim’s name has not yet been publicly released. Houston is accused of serious crimes and, unless proven guilty in court, is presumed innocent.
