Two Women Killed in Horrific Bronx Chain-Reaction Crash After Mercedes Plows Through Intersection
A busy afternoon in New York City’s Bronx borough turned into a devastating scene of chaos when a car allegedly sped through an intersection, struck pedestrians and triggered a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles. Two women lost their lives, and several other people were injured in the frightening incident that unfolded in broad daylight.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Friday, October 9, at the intersection of Allerton Avenue and Holland Avenue. According to the New York Police Department, an 81-year-old man was driving a Mercedes-Benz C300 when the vehicle allegedly continued through the intersection and struck pedestrians crossing the street.
Investigators said the Mercedes struck a 39-year-old woman in one crosswalk before continuing through a steady red traffic light. The vehicle then hit three more pedestrians — women aged 57, 60 and 84 — in another crosswalk. What began as a collision at a busy intersection quickly escalated into a devastating series of impacts.
The Mercedes subsequently collided with three other vehicles, setting off a chain reaction that sent the crash across the intersection. One of the vehicles involved was pushed into another nearby car, adding to the destruction. Witnesses described a terrifying scene in which pedestrians were struck amid the confusion and force of the collisions.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, where officers found several pedestrians suffering from serious injuries. A total of nine people were transported to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment. Among them were the four women who had been struck while crossing the street.
Despite emergency medical efforts, two of the women later died at the hospital. Police identified the victims as Angel Johnson, 39, and Robin Kennedy, 57, both residents of the Bronx. Their deaths have left loved ones and members of the local community grieving as investigators work to establish exactly what happened.
The injuries sustained by the other pedestrians were also severe. Police reported that the 84-year-old woman remained in critical condition, while the 60-year-old woman was listed in stable condition. The 81-year-old driver and his 84-year-old female passenger were also reported to be in stable condition, along with the drivers of the other vehicles involved.
For people who witnessed the crash, the aftermath was difficult to comprehend. Witnesses told local news outlets that several pedestrians were hit as the vehicles collided. One eyewitness described seeing multiple people struck by a car, calling the scene horrific. Others recalled hearing a loud crash before looking over and realizing the scale of the incident.
The collision also affected businesses near the intersection, with reports that some storefront windows were shattered. For residents who regularly pass through the neighborhood, the familiar streets suddenly became the site of a tragedy that claimed two lives and injured several others.
One local resident remembered Angel Johnson as a friendly and familiar presence in the neighborhood. Abdul Titumir, who has worked at a nearby store for more than three decades, told ABC7 that Johnson regularly walked through the area and greeted people. His recollection offered a glimpse of the person behind the name, making the news of her death especially painful for those who knew her.
Authorities have not announced any arrests, and the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to investigate. Officials are working to determine the circumstances that led the Mercedes to enter the intersection and collide with pedestrians and other vehicles. While reports have raised questions about what happened in the moments before impact, the precise cause remains under investigation.
The tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly an ordinary journey across a city street can turn deadly. For pedestrians, a marked crosswalk and a traffic signal are meant to provide a measure of safety. But when a vehicle enters an intersection unexpectedly, people on foot have little protection from the force of a collision.
As the investigation continues, Angel Johnson and Robin Kennedy are being remembered not simply as two victims of a devastating crash, but as members of a community whose lives mattered to the people around them. Their deaths have left a painful void in the Bronx, while the injured victims and their families face the difficult road to recovery.
