Sunset Rescue: Bodycam Captures Rescuer Snipping a Stranded Sea Turtle Free From Tangled Fishing Net

A giant trapped at the waterline

The bodycam footage, timestamped October 14, 2026, at 5:42 PM, opens on a shoreline glowing in the last light of day. Waves roll gently over wet sand, black rocks frame the coastline, and golden reflections dance across the water.

Near the waterline lies a large sea turtle — its dark, wet shell and head tangled tightly in green fishing net mixed with seaweed. One flipper is pinned; part of its shell is wrapped. The turtle is exhausted and can barely move, its blinking eyes watching everything that happens around it.

In the shallow surf behind it, a marine rescue boat with crew members stands by, ready to assist.

Fifteen breath-holding seconds

The rescuer — wearing black waterproof sleeves and blue-and-black marine gloves — approaches and kneels on the wet sand beside the turtle. One gloved hand gently steadies the frightened animal while the other brings up orange cutting pliers.

Carefully, the rescuer begins snipping through the net wrapped around the turtle’s shell and front flipper. Wet strands loosen and drop away; bits of seaweed shift on the sand. The turtle reacts slightly — blinking, turning its head — but stays close, watching its rescuer work.

Snip by snip, the trap falls apart. The turtle begins to move more freely, its heavy body no longer bound by the net.

“Every snip counts”

By the clip’s final seconds, the last sections of net are being freed. The turtle looks calmer — the panic in its eyes softened — as warm sunset light washes over the beach and the waves keep rolling in behind it.

The video ends with the turtle safer and freer than it was a minute ago — a quiet, emotional victory against one of the ocean’s most common threats: abandoned fishing gear.
