Four Arrested After Police Officer Is Shot in Nottingham City Centre During Early-Morning Encounter

Four people have been arrested after a police officer was shot in the foot during an early-morning incident in Nottingham, England. The shooting happened at approximately 4:50 a.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2026, near a bus stop on Angel Row in the city centre. The incident triggered a major police investigation and a search for two suspects who reportedly fled immediately after the officer was injured.

According to Nottinghamshire Police, the officer had approached a man and a woman when the shooting occurred. He was taken to hospital, where he remained in stable condition as detectives continued their investigation. A firearm believed to be connected to the incident was recovered at the scene, and officers established a cordon around nearby streets while forensic teams gathered evidence.

Police made their first three arrests on Sunday evening after stopping a vehicle in the Radford area of Nottingham. A 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. A 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A fourth suspect, a 30-year-old man, was arrested early Monday morning after officers stopped another vehicle in Bedfordshire. All four individuals remained in police custody for questioning, and detectives were working to establish what happened before, during and after the shooting. The arrests represent a significant development in the investigation, although no guilt has been established against any of the suspects.

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas described the incident as deeply shocking and thanked members of the public who rushed to help the injured officer before additional emergency services arrived. She also expressed support for the officer, his family and colleagues as he continued recovering in hospital. Police have urged witnesses and anyone with relevant information to come forward, emphasizing that even small details could help investigators reconstruct the events.

The police cordon around Angel Row has since been lifted, although officers said a visible police presence would remain in the area to reassure residents, visitors and local businesses. Authorities have also stated that there is currently no information suggesting a wider threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives question those arrested and work to determine the full circumstances of the shooting.
