Louisiana Mother and Boyfriend Arrested After Toddler Found With Broken Bones and Severe Head Injuries

A disturbing child cruelty investigation in Louisiana has led to the arrests of a 25-year-old mother and her 21-year-old boyfriend after doctors discovered multiple serious injuries on a 2-year-old girl. The couple allegedly offered explanations for the child’s bruises, but medical findings raised further questions about what had happened.

According to police records, Zoe Wagenhurst and her boyfriend, Christian Griffin, were arrested after the toddler was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge on October 16, 2026. Doctors reportedly discovered a broken bone in her left upper arm, a fracture in her left leg that was already healing, a hematoma on her skull, and bleeding in the retinas of both eyes.

Investigators said Wagenhurst attributed the bruises on her daughter’s face to the child sleeping with a sippy cup and slipping on dog urine before hitting her face on the floor. Griffin reportedly offered a similar explanation involving the toddler sleeping with toys and her cup. The mother also allegedly said she did not know how the head injury had occurred.

The couple claimed the girl injured her arm during a playdate while pulling a toy away from another toddler. However, the other child’s mother reportedly told investigators that the girl already had visible bruises when she arrived. Her account raised additional questions about the explanation provided for the injuries.

According to arrest warrant affidavits, both adults acknowledged noticing swelling, bruising, and signs of pain in the child’s arm. Griffin reportedly told investigators that the girl had been unable to lift her arm above her shoulder at one point. Authorities allege that neither adult sought professional medical care despite these warning signs.

Wagenhurst and Griffin were each charged with felony second-degree cruelty to juveniles and were being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish jail, according to reports. The charges are allegations, and the case will proceed through the legal system. Meanwhile, the child’s injuries have prompted serious questions about the circumstances surrounding her care and the importance of seeking immediate medical attention when a young child shows signs of significant injury.
