Texas Couple Charged After Newborn Girl Found in Motel Dumpster Days After Birth
A heartbreaking case in Fort Worth, Texas, has led to serious criminal charges against a 23-year-old mother and her boyfriend after a newborn baby girl was found dead in a bag near a motel dumpster. Investigators say the infant’s body had allegedly been kept inside their motel room for several days before it was discarded.

The investigation began on October 18, 2026, when a woman searching through a dumpster outside the Drummers Inn discovered the baby. Police arrived at the scene and began investigating how the infant had died and who was responsible. Authorities later identified the suspects as Avia Cantrell, 23, and her boyfriend, Camron Baker, 26.
According to court documents cited by local media, Cantrell allegedly told investigators that she gave birth to a full-term baby girl in the motel bathtub. She reportedly said she left the infant face-down in the water for approximately 30 minutes before moving her. By the time Baker returned from work, the baby had died, according to the police account.
Investigators allege that the couple placed the infant’s body in a bag and kept it near the bathroom toilet for about four days. Baker reportedly admitted to eventually placing the baby inside a travel bag and throwing it into the dumpster. According to the arrest affidavit, the couple did not seek medical assistance because they feared getting into legal trouble.
The case took another turn when Cantrell’s sister contacted authorities to request a welfare check. She reportedly told police that Cantrell had been pregnant and was nearing her due date. That information helped investigators connect the mother to the infant and move the investigation forward.
Cantrell has been charged with capital murder of a person under 10 years old, while Baker faces a charge of abuse of a corpse, according to police and court records cited in news reports. The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations will be addressed through the legal process. The case has also raised urgent questions about the circumstances surrounding the newborn’s death and the failure to seek medical help.
