South Carolina Mother Charged After Two Young Children Found Seriously Injured at Home, 6-Year-Old Faces Possible Amputation
A deeply disturbing case in South Carolina has left a community shaken after two young children were found severely injured inside their home. Their 35-year-old mother, Taylor Gosnell, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with the alleged attack, according to authorities cited by PEOPLE.

Deputies with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office were called to a residence on Bud Arthur Bridge Road on September 26, 2026, after concerns were raised that two children had been left home alone. When officers entered the property, they reportedly found the three-year-old and six-year-old children covered in blood and suffering from numerous injuries.
According to information presented during a court hearing, investigators believe the children were attacked the previous night. Authorities also reported damage inside the home, including a broken television and mirror, as they worked to piece together what had happened.
The most concerning details emerged when prosecutors described the severity of the children’s injuries. Both youngsters had reportedly suffered deep cuts, some extending to the bone. The six-year-old boy faces the possibility of having fingers and potentially an arm amputated because of the extent of his injuries.
Despite the severity of the incident, both children are expected to survive. They were placed in protective custody and taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Gosnell reportedly arrived at the residence while deputies were investigating. According to statements presented in court, she appeared distressed and spoke about experiencing visions. Authorities subsequently arranged for her to undergo a mental health evaluation. These details remain part of the reported circumstances surrounding the investigation and do not establish a diagnosis.
The mother was arrested and denied bond following her court appearance. Prosecutors stated that she could face a combined maximum sentence of 60 years in prison if convicted. Reports indicated that her next court date was scheduled for November 12, 2026.
Investigators are continuing to examine the case as the children receive medical care and remain under protective supervision. The allegations have raised serious questions about what happened inside the home and the circumstances that led to the children’s injuries.
