Man Allegedly Stomped Library Patron to Death in Unprovoked Attack — and Showed No Reaction, Police Say
A man accused of carrying out a brutal, unprovoked attack on a fellow patron inside a public library is facing serious criminal allegations after the victim died from his injuries, according to authorities.

The incident reportedly occurred at the Austin Central Library in Texas, where a man identified as Daniel Vasquez allegedly attacked another patron who was sitting at a computer. Investigators say the victim was struck in the head, causing him to fall to the floor, before the suspect allegedly stomped on his head multiple times.
The assault left the victim with critical, life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders transported him to a hospital for treatment. The attack shocked library visitors, who had been using the public space for reading, studying and other everyday activities when the violence erupted.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis happened to be at the library for a community meeting when the incident occurred. According to reports, she intervened and helped detain the suspect before additional officers arrived. Police subsequently took Vasquez into custody as investigators worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Authorities described the assault as unprovoked, raising further concerns about the safety of people in public spaces. The case also drew attention because the alleged violence occurred in a library, a place generally associated with quiet study and community activities.
Vasquez was initially reported to be facing an aggravated assault charge involving serious bodily injury. The victim’s subsequent death led to further developments in the case, according to later reports. The investigation and legal proceedings will determine the full circumstances of the fatal assault.
