Pennsylvania Man Accused of Stabbing His Boss to Death After Complaining About Lack of Work Hours and Struggling to Pay Rent

A 63-year-old Pennsylvania man has been accused of fatally stabbing his female boss inside an auto parts business after reportedly complaining that he was not receiving enough work hours to pay his rent. The shocking killing unfolded before other employees arrived for their shifts, leaving coworkers to discover a bloody scene and the body of their supervisor inside her office.

Authorities identified the suspect as Clifton Emerson, 63, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of his boss, 57-year-old Mary Kelly, at Factory Motor Parts in Swatara Township. Investigators believe the fatal attack occurred on the morning of October 20, 2026, as the business was preparing to begin its workday.

According to court documents cited by local media, employees arriving at the business around 7:30 a.m. noticed something unusual almost immediately. A cup of spilled coffee lay on the hallway floor, and they observed damage to the drywall nearby. As they looked farther inside the building, they noticed blood leading toward Kelly’s office.

The employees then discovered Kelly lying on the floor inside the office. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, they left the area and contacted emergency services. Responding officers subsequently found Kelly dead, with multiple stab wounds to her head and neck.

The discovery prompted a homicide investigation, as detectives began examining the workplace and searching for evidence that could explain what had happened before the employees arrived.

Investigators reportedly found bloody footprints leading away from the business toward an adjacent warehouse. The trail led officers to a trash container, where they discovered two kitchen-style knives covered in blood, along with what appeared to be hair. These items became important pieces of evidence as authorities worked to reconstruct the events surrounding Kelly’s death.

Surveillance footage also provided investigators with a potential timeline of the killing. According to the police affidavit, Kelly arrived at the business at approximately 7:15 a.m. A short time later, a red sport utility vehicle pulled into the parking lot. The driver allegedly parked near Kelly’s vehicle, exited wearing a hat and walked toward the building’s entrance.

The footage reportedly showed the individual leaving the premises approximately 20 minutes later. Investigators later identified the vehicle as one associated with Emerson, and information from coworkers helped direct police toward him as a suspect.

Emerson had reportedly worked at Factory Motor Parts for approximately four years. In the week leading up to the killing, coworkers told investigators that he had complained about receiving insufficient work hours and struggling to earn enough money to pay his rent. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, although the precise motive for the alleged attack has not been conclusively established.

Emerson was arrested later that day in Maryland, according to reports. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. At the time of the initial reports, information about his arraignment and the next stages of the court proceedings remained limited.

The case has also drawn attention to Emerson’s criminal history. Reports indicate that he had previous convictions for sexually related offenses and had been listed on Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law sex offender registry since 2015. Those prior records have emerged as part of the reporting surrounding the suspect, although the murder charge concerns the separate allegations involving Kelly.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s death has devastated her family. Her sister, Pamela Vison, expressed profound grief over the loss, remembering Kelly as a kind person who brought family members together. Her death has left loved ones mourning a woman whose life was cut short in a place where she had gone to work.

Factory Motor Parts also expressed sorrow over Kelly’s death and said it would cooperate fully with law enforcement as the investigation continued.

For investigators, the focus remains on establishing exactly what happened inside the business that morning, examining the physical evidence and determining the sequence of events leading to the fatal attack. Surveillance footage, forensic evidence and witness statements are expected to play important roles as the case progresses.

The killing has raised difficult questions about workplace safety and the warning signs that can precede acts of violence. While coworkers reportedly recalled Emerson’s complaints about money and work hours, authorities have not established that those grievances alone explain the alleged crime.

As the legal process moves forward, Emerson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Investigators continue working to establish the facts surrounding Kelly’s death and ensure that the evidence is examined through the judicial process.
