Oklahoma Father Sentenced to 40 Years After Burning and Beating 6-Year-Old Son, Blaming Injuries on Playground Fight
Oklahoma Father Sentenced to 40 Years After Burning and Beating 6-Year-Old Son, Blaming Injuries on Playground Fight
An Oklahoma father has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after admitting to abusing his 6-year-old son, who was found with cigarette burns, multiple fractures and other serious injuries. The father reportedly told medical staff that the child had been beaten up on a playground, but doctors found that the injuries did not match his explanation.

Daniel Solomon received the sentence in Tulsa County after entering guilty pleas to child abuse and child neglect charges, according to prosecutors.
A Hospital Visit Raises Serious Questions
According to a probable cause affidavit cited by local CBS affiliate KOTV, the abuse occurred inside the family’s home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 17.
Three days later, Solomon reportedly brought the boy to an emergency room in Amite, Louisiana. There, he allegedly told medical personnel that the child had been “beat up on the playground.”
However, medical staff discovered a series of injuries that raised concerns about what had actually happened to the young boy.
The child reportedly had cigarette burns on his arms, chin and ear. Doctors also identified a broken arm, a broken elbow, a fractured rib and a swollen jaw.
The injuries prompted questions about the father’s explanation and led to further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s condition.
Child Reportedly Told Investigators His Father Hurt Him
As investigators worked to determine how the boy had been injured, they interviewed the child about what had happened.
According to the affidavit, the boy told investigators that “Dad hurts him.”
The child’s sibling also reportedly provided information about the alleged abuse, telling police that Solomon would typically hit the boy when he failed to follow instructions.
These statements became part of the investigation into the child’s injuries. Authorities also examined the medical findings, which reportedly did not support the explanation that the boy had simply been hurt in a playground fight.
A toxicology test conducted during the medical evaluation also reportedly came back positive for fentanyl, according to KOTV. The publicly reported information did not establish how the substance entered the child’s system, and the positive result should not be taken as proof of who was responsible for the exposure.
Mother Travels to Louisiana After Learning of Injuries
The child’s mother reportedly traveled to Louisiana after learning that her son had been seriously injured.
According to the affidavit, she told police that she had last seen the boy on February 20 and that he had not been injured when she saw him.
The gap between that last encounter and the hospital visit became part of the timeline investigators considered as they worked to understand what had happened to the child.
The case involved both the medical evidence and accounts provided by the children and their family members. Together, the information helped authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the boy’s injuries.
Judge Orders Decades Behind Bars
Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler announced Solomon’s sentence in a social media post on Tuesday.
Solomon entered what is known as a “blind plea,” meaning he pleaded guilty without a negotiated sentencing agreement with prosecutors.
A judge sentenced him to 40 years in a state correctional facility for child abuse by injuring, torturing or maiming, along with another 40 years for child neglect. The two sentences will run concurrently, meaning they will be served at the same time rather than one after the other.
Prosecutors also said Solomon must serve at least 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
The sentence means he faces decades behind bars for the abuse of his young son, whose injuries prompted the investigation after he was taken for medical treatment.
A Case That Began With an Explanation Doctors Questioned
The investigation began with a father’s claim that his son had been injured in a playground altercation. But the medical findings—including cigarette burns and several broken bones—raised concerns that went far beyond an ordinary childhood accident.
The child’s reported statement to investigators and information provided by his sibling added further details to the case. Solomon ultimately pleaded guilty to the child abuse and neglect charges and received a lengthy prison sentence.
The case underscores how medical professionals can play a critical role in identifying possible child abuse when a patient’s injuries appear inconsistent with the explanation provided.
