Trapped Under a Canoe, Soaked and Trembling: The Tiny Rabbit Rescued From a Flooded Campsite

Standfirst: Bodycam footage captures the quiet moment a rescuer finds a small white rabbit sheltering inside an overturned canoe, then gently lifts it from the rising water and carries it to safety.

Body:

The campsite was already under water. Picnic tables stood half submerged, tents sagged in the rain, and muddy floodwater moved slowly between the tall pine trees. In the middle of it all, an overturned green canoe lay like a small, accidental shelter.

Inside, curled against the damp wood, was a tiny white rabbit. Its fur was wet and matted, its ears partly raised, and its dark eyes watched every movement with fear. It had found the only dry space it could, but the water was creeping closer.

The rescuer, wearing a green waterproof jacket and black rescue gloves, knelt beside the canoe and moved slowly. There was no rush, no sudden grab. One gloved hand steadied the edge of the canoe while the other reached in gently. The rabbit twitched its nose and flicked an ear, unsure whether this stranger was danger or help.

Then, with both hands supporting its chest, belly, and hind legs, the rescuer lifted the rabbit carefully from the canoe. It did not struggle. Held close to the rescuer’s chest, it stayed safe and still as they waded toward a nearby elevated wooden platform, away from the floodwater.

It was a rescue that lasted only seconds on camera, but it meant everything to one very small life. In a flooded forest full of loss and damage, the quietest rescue was also the most hopeful: someone stopped, looked closer, and refused to leave a tiny animal behind.
