Trapped on a Sinking RV: A Young Bobcat Is Pulled From a Raging Canyon Flood

A young bobcat is safe after a dramatic rescue in a red rock canyon, where rising floodwater had left the animal stranded on the roof of a partially submerged RV.
Bodycam footage from the rescue shows the full force of the flash flood. Muddy water races between the canyon walls, carrying branches and debris past the sinking vehicle. On top of the RV, the soaked bobcat crouches low on the roof rack, tense and alert, with nowhere to run.
A swiftwater rescuer, wearing a teal waterproof jacket, black gloves, and rope rescue gear, moves carefully toward the animal. The rescuer kneels, keeps low, and reaches out slowly, giving the frightened bobcat time to watch and settle.
In the footage, the bobcat stays low but does not panic. The rescuer steadies it gently, supporting it on the slippery roof before turning toward a safer position away from the strongest current.
Wildlife experts say young bobcats caught in flash floods face extreme danger. Fast moving water can sweep small animals away in seconds, and cold, soaked fur quickly leads to exhaustion. Staying calm and moving slowly is often the difference between a successful rescue and a tragedy.
The video ends with the bobcat held securely in the rescuer’s arms, away from the floodwater and finally out of danger.
It is a powerful reminder of how quickly nature can turn, and how one calm, careful rescue can save a life.
