A TINY PLATYPUS, A GENTLE NET, AND A SAFE PLACE BESIDE THE STREAM

In a quiet Australian forest, a tiny platypus was found resting at the muddy edge of a shallow stream. Wet, tired, and very still, the young animal stayed close to the bank while clear water flowed past moss covered stones and ferns.
A wildlife rescuer in a blue waterproof jacket approached slowly, holding a fine mesh net. Using slow and gentle movements, the rescuer slid the net beneath the animal without touching its bill, keeping the platypus fully supported at all times.
Once the platypus was safely in the net, it was lifted just above the water and moved to a holding container filled with clean shallow water at the stream edge. There, the little animal settled and floated calmly as the rescuer stayed close.
It was a small rescue, but for one tiny platypus, it meant everything.
