Another Woman Alleges Rape at University of Chicago Fraternity House as 2022 Warning Resurfaces
new sexual assault lawsuit involving a University of Chicago fraternity has brought renewed scrutiny to allegations of misconduct that reportedly date back more than a decade. A 19-year-old woman says she was sexually assaulted at a fraternity party earlier this year, and her lawsuit points to a disturbing history of previous reports, including an anonymous Instagram post from 2022 that allegedly raised concerns about safety inside the same house.

The woman, identified as Jane Doe in court documents, alleges that the assault occurred on February 7, 2026, at the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity house near the University of Chicago campus. According to the civil complaint, she attended a party and accepted a shot of alcohol from a fraternity member shortly after arriving. She says she soon began feeling unsteady and lightheaded, leaving her increasingly vulnerable as the evening unfolded.
According to the lawsuit, a fraternity member then led her upstairs to a bedroom. The woman alleges that she told him she was feeling unwell, but instead of receiving assistance, she was taken to a bed, where he allegedly made unwanted sexual advances. She claims she became physically and verbally unable to resist and that the man proceeded to assault her despite her lack of consent. The complaint further alleges that she asked him to use a condom, but he refused.
After the alleged assault, the woman says she was left unconscious in the room. A friend eventually found her and helped her leave the house. According to her legal representatives, she struggled to walk and speak, and later discovered bloodstains on her underwear. She subsequently sought medical attention and reported the incident to Chicago police. Authorities have confirmed that a 19-year-old woman filed a report, and the investigation remains ongoing. No arrest had been announced in connection with this case in the initial reports.
One of the most troubling aspects of the lawsuit is its reference to an anonymous Instagram post published in September 2022 on the account @shareyourstoryuchicago. According to the complaint, the post described another alleged sexual assault at the Alpha Delta Phi house and called for the fraternity to be placed on probation. The lawsuit also cites reports of earlier incidents dating back to 2009, alleging that concerns about sexual misconduct at the property had been raised repeatedly over the years.
The complaint accuses the local fraternity chapter and its national organization of failing to take adequate steps to prevent further incidents despite those warnings. Among the alleged shortcomings are insufficient supervision during parties, inadequate enforcement of rules concerning alcohol and consent, and a failure to implement stronger safeguards in residential areas. These claims have not been established in court, and the allegations against the organizations remain subject to legal proceedings.
The woman is seeking more than $200,000 in damages for her alleged physical injuries, emotional distress, and continuing psychological harm. The University of Chicago has also faced questions about its role in overseeing fraternity-related activities. The university has stated that fraternities are not officially recognized student organizations and have no formal affiliation with the institution. However, the lawsuit raises questions about what organizations knew about earlier reports and whether additional preventive measures could have been taken.
The case has emerged amid heightened attention to sexual assault allegations involving fraternities across American college campuses. It follows another reported assault at a different fraternity house near the University of Chicago earlier in October. Although the two cases involve separate incidents and different organizations, their timing has intensified concerns among students and members of the wider community about safety at fraternity events and the treatment of people who report sexual violence.
As the legal process moves forward, the allegations will need to be examined through evidence and testimony. For the woman bringing the lawsuit, the case represents an effort to seek accountability for what she says happened and to challenge the systems she believes failed to protect her. The resurfacing of the 2022 Instagram post adds another dimension to the dispute, placing renewed attention on whether previous warnings were adequately addressed.
