Baby Goat Steadied to Safety Along a Flood-Ravaged Mountain Village Path

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE — June 17, 2024, 08:05:16 — Chest-mounted bodycam footage recorded at 8:05 on the morning of June 17, 2024, shows a mountain rescuer gently steadying a frightened baby goat and guiding it to safety along a narrow, rain-slicked stone pathway above a flood-devastated village.

The video opens exactly as the rescuer finds her: a small cream-colored goat, her pale fur soaked and streaked with mud, standing frozen on wet stones barely wider than her own body. Small horns are just beginning to grow, her floppy ears hang heavy with rain, and below her the valley is unrecognizable — a swollen brown river tearing through damaged homes, collapsed slopes and debris where streets used to be.

The rescuer, wearing a purple waterproof mountain-rescue jacket, black gloves and a climbing harness clipped with carabiners and colored safety ropes, does not rush. The left hand extends slowly, palm open, while the right stays close to the safety rope. The little goat blinks against the rain, her ears twitch — and she takes one small, trusting step toward the glove.

Then comes the steadying. One hand settles gently against her shoulder, the other supports her chest as droplets shake from her wet coat. She stays standing, trembling but calm, while the rescuer takes her weight on the slippery stones.

In the final seconds, the pair move together: the rescuer guides her, step by careful step, along the broken pathway toward a wider, sheltered section beside the village wall. Her small hooves pick their way over the wet stone, the floodwater still roaring far below, until she reaches ground where she can finally stand safe.
