Death of Autistic New Yorker Ruled a Homicide as Investigators Examine His Mother’s Possible Involvement

The death of a 25-year-old man with autism inside his family’s Queens home has been ruled a homicide, deepening a disturbing investigation that has left a New York neighborhood searching for answers. Bryan Wong, who was nonverbal, was found dead inside the family’s Woodside apartment on Wednesday morning, October 14. Investigators are examining whether his mother may have been involved in his death, but no arrests have been announced.

Police responded to the home on 59th Street shortly before 9 a.m. after Wong’s father discovered his son unresponsive. The young man had suffered severe wounds to his wrists and neck, according to reports. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. The discovery prompted a homicide investigation, and the city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that his death was a homicide.

The case took another troubling turn when Wong’s mother, Suk Kuen Wong, 61, was found seriously injured beneath the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens during the early hours of the same morning. Authorities believe she had fallen from an elevated roadway in what was reported as an apparent suicide attempt. She was taken to a hospital with multiple fractures and remained hospitalized in stable condition, according to reports.

Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding both incidents and whether they are connected. Law enforcement sources told local news outlets that the mother is being investigated in connection with her son’s death. At least three knives were reportedly recovered from the family’s apartment. A note was also said to have been found at the scene, although its contents and authorship have not been publicly established. Police have not formally named a suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The tragedy has stunned neighbors who said the Wong family had lived in the area for years. Some residents described them as quiet and friendly, expressing disbelief that such a disturbing case could unfold in their community. One neighbor told local media that they had watched Bryan grow up and felt a deep sense of sadness over his death.

As detectives continue piecing together the final hours before Wong was found, key questions remain unanswered: what happened inside the apartment, what led to his fatal injuries, and whether the two incidents were directly linked. Authorities have not publicly established a motive, and the mother has not been charged in connection with her son’s death.

For now, the case remains an investigation rather than a completed account of what happened. Bryan Wong’s death has raised painful questions for his family and neighbors, while investigators work to establish the facts and determine whether anyone should face criminal charges.
