Elon Musk Accused of Slashing Ashley St. Clair’s Child Support by $80,000 a Month After She Revealed Their Son
A new documentary has reignited controversy surrounding Elon Musk’s private life, as Ashley St. Clair alleges that the billionaire dramatically reduced his financial support after she refused to keep their son a secret.
Elon Musk is facing renewed scrutiny over his relationship with former conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair, who claims that her monthly child support payments fell from $100,000 to $20,000 after she publicly revealed that they had welcomed a son together.
The allegations are featured in Musk, a new documentary by acclaimed filmmaker Alex Gibney, which examines the life, influence and personal relationships of the Tesla and SpaceX chief. According to St. Clair’s account in the film, the dispute began with an alleged offer that would have required her to keep their relationship and child out of the public eye.
An Alleged $15 Million Offer — With a Condition
St. Clair says Musk initially offered her a reported $15 million lump sum, along with $100,000 in monthly child support, if she agreed to sign a nondisclosure agreement, or NDA.
The agreement, she alleges, would have restricted what she could publicly say about their relationship and their child, Romulus, who was born in September 2024.
St. Clair says she ultimately refused the arrangement because she did not want her son to grow up feeling that his existence had to remain a secret.
According to her account in the documentary, the financial support subsequently dropped to $40,000 per month after she declined the agreement. She alleges that it was reduced again to $20,000 a month after she publicly disclosed their son’s existence in February 2025.
If her account is accurate, the reduction represents an $80,000 monthly difference from the original proposed amount — a staggering figure even by the standards of a dispute involving one of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
‘He Was Kind Until Our Baby Was Born’
Beyond the financial allegations, St. Clair also reflects on what she describes as a dramatic change in Musk’s behavior after the birth of their child.
In the documentary, she says she initially experienced him as kind but felt that another side of his personality emerged after she became a mother.
The relationship reportedly began in 2023, following interactions on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. St. Clair has said that conversations about having children became part of their relationship early on.
Her account has since drawn renewed attention to questions about privacy, parental responsibility and the challenges faced by women navigating relationships with powerful public figures.
However, the allegations presented in the documentary should be distinguished from independently established facts. The reported financial terms and St. Clair’s characterization of the payment reductions have not, by themselves, established that the changes were made in retaliation for her public statements.
A Custody Dispute Adds to the Controversy
The financial dispute is part of a broader legal conflict over Romulus. In February 2025, St. Clair filed a legal action seeking custody of their son, setting the stage for an increasingly public dispute.
Musk has previously addressed the matter publicly. In March 2025, he said on X that he had given St. Clair $2.5 million and was sending $500,000 annually, while stating at the time that he was willing to establish paternity.
Those statements provide important context, but they do not independently resolve the specific allegations about the proposed NDA or the reported sequence of monthly payment reductions.
Representatives for Musk were contacted for comment in media coverage of the latest allegations. The claims should therefore be treated as St. Clair’s account unless and until further evidence or an official response establishes additional details.
More Than a Dispute Over Money
The revelations have placed a deeply personal family conflict back in the spotlight, raising broader questions about how financial arrangements, privacy agreements and public disclosure can intersect when children are involved.
For St. Clair, the central issue is not simply the amount of money at stake. Her account frames the dispute as a question of whether she should have been expected to remain silent about her own child.
For Musk, whose business empire and public persona attract global attention, the allegations add another layer of scrutiny to his already closely watched personal life.
As the documentary fuels further debate, one important distinction remains: the reported financial figures and the alleged connection between the payment changes and St. Clair’s public disclosure are claims that require careful attribution, rather than assumptions of proven wrongdoing.
The dispute is likely to remain a subject of public interest as more details emerge about the family’s legal proceedings and the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial arrangement.
