Ex-Wife Tried to Destroy Dentist’s Career With False Drinking Claims After Divorce, Court Hears
A bitter divorce took a shocking turn when a woman threatened to damage her former husband’s professional reputation unless he agreed to give her more money from their divorce settlement. The case, heard at Bournemouth Crown Court in England, revealed how a personal dispute escalated into allegations that threatened to jeopardize a dentist’s career and leave him facing months of uncertainty.

Dina Williamson, 39, was accused of making false claims about her ex-husband, Ben Williamson, alleging that he had been drinking alcohol while treating patients. According to the court, she threatened to report him to the General Dental Council (GDC), the body responsible for regulating dentists in the UK, unless he increased the financial settlement she would receive following their separation. When Ben refused and blocked her communications, she went ahead with the complaint.
The couple had met in 2019 and married in 2022 before their relationship broke down and they divorced in 2024. Prosecutors told the court that tensions intensified in the months that followed, with Dina sending messages about financial difficulties and warning that she did not want to ruin her former husband’s career. Eventually, she reported allegations that Ben was an alcoholic in recovery and had consumed alcohol between patient appointments.

The complaint triggered a nine-month investigation by the dental regulator, placing Ben’s professional standing under scrutiny. For a dentist who had spent 16 years working in his profession, the prospect of a fitness-to-practice case was deeply distressing. In his victim impact statement, he explained how the allegations and threats compounded the emotional strain of an already painful divorce. In February 2026, the GDC investigation concluded with no further action against him, and the allegations were found to be false.
The court also heard that Dina had posted accusations about male dental surgeons being unfaithful to their wives on the dental practice’s Facebook page. Prosecutors described her report to the regulator as vexatious, while the judge said her actions were intended to undermine Ben’s professional reputation unless he gave her money. The case highlighted how allegations made during a bitter personal dispute can have serious consequences for the person targeted, even when they are ultimately dismissed.

Dina pleaded guilty to one count of blackmail. Her defense lawyer told the court that she had experienced a mental health crisis following the breakdown of the relationship. Judge Jonathan Fuller nevertheless stressed the seriousness of her conduct, explaining that the allegations had taken months to investigate and had threatened to damage Ben’s career. She was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to stay away from her ex-husband.
For Ben, the outcome brought an end to the regulatory investigation, but it could not erase the stress of spending months under the shadow of accusations against his professional integrity. What began as a dispute over a divorce settlement had developed into a criminal case, leaving a stark reminder of how threats and false allegations can turn an already difficult separation into a devastating ordeal.
