Florida Mom Arrested After Allegedly Leaving Four Children Home Alone for Days During Las Vegas Work Trip

A Florida mother is facing multiple child neglect charges after allegedly leaving her four children, ages 9, 11, 12 and 14, home alone for several days while traveling to Las Vegas for work. The case came to light after one of the children called 911 to report that her 9-year-old brother had been injured by a falling dumbbell, prompting authorities to respond to the family’s home in Kissimmee.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at the residence on Parkway Boulevard shortly after 8:30 p.m. on October 21, 2026. When they entered the home, they found all four children without an adult present. Emergency responders took the injured boy to Celebration Hospital, where he received treatment before being released. Although the child was able to leave the hospital, the incident raised serious concerns about the circumstances in which the siblings had been left.

Investigators identified the children’s mother as Irene Miller, 50, who reportedly told deputies that she was in Las Vegas on a work trip. Authorities said she had left Florida on October 18 and was expected to return on October 23. During their conversation, Miller reportedly explained that she had arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to help the children get ready for school in the mornings and check on them after school. However, the babysitter was not required to remain at the house overnight, meaning the children were allegedly left without adult supervision during those hours.

Following the incident, deputies contacted the children’s father, who agreed to take all four siblings to his home. Investigators continued looking into the circumstances surrounding the mother’s absence and the arrangements she had made for the children’s care. The case ultimately led authorities to arrange for Miller to be met by detectives when she returned to Florida.

On October 23, Miller was arrested after arriving back in the state. According to authorities, she was taken into custody at the airport and booked into the Orange County Jail. She faces four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm, one count for each child. The charges are allegations, and the case will proceed through the legal system.

Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon emphasized that authorities take allegations of child neglect seriously, stating that cases involving children who are not properly supervised or cared for will be investigated and may result in criminal charges. The incident has also highlighted the importance of ensuring that children have reliable adult supervision, particularly when a parent must travel for an extended period.

For now, the investigation and legal proceedings will determine the next steps in the case. While the injured boy was treated and released from the hospital, questions remain about the decisions that left four siblings without overnight adult supervision for several days. The case serves as a reminder that arranging occasional visits or check-ins may not be enough to ensure children’s safety when a parent is away from home.
