FORENSICS STUDENT ADMITS TO DEADLY “DEXTER-STYLE” ATTACK INSIDE AIRBNB

A disturbing murder case in the UK has taken a shocking turn after a university forensics student admitted killing a 24-year-old woman inside an Airbnb that prosecutors say had been deliberately transformed into a “kill room” inspired by the TV series Dexter.

Benjamin William Day, who was 19 at the time of the killing and is now 20, pleaded guilty to murdering Maria Saceanu, 24, on the second day of his trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court. Prosecutors said Day had spent hours preparing the rented room in Tividale, West Midlands, covering parts of it with plastic sheeting and gathering equipment he allegedly intended to use during the attack and afterward.

According to the prosecution, Day had reportedly made a detailed shopping list on his phone containing items including knives, gloves, plastic sheeting, cleaning chemicals, duct tape and heavy-duty garbage bags. Investigators later found many of those items at the Airbnb, along with evidence of the violent attack.

Maria had been lured to the property after Day contacted her using a burner phone. Prosecutors told the court that she suffered 78 knife wounds. Day then allegedly attempted to dismember her body but abandoned the plan after injuring his own hand. He eventually left the property and called emergency services, claiming he had been bitten by a fox. Police later found him with duct tape around his injured hand.

The case became even more disturbing because Day had reportedly been fascinated by Dexter, the fictional television character who works in forensic science while secretly carrying out killings. His defense had been expected to argue that the room was prepared for a TikTok tribute to the show and that he acted in self-defense. Instead, Day ultimately changed his plea to guilty.

The gruesome scene was discovered after another person staying at the property noticed a trail of blood and alerted the landlord. Police then entered the room and found Maria’s body.

Day has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 4. The case has left investigators and the public questioning how a fascination with a fictional character could become connected to such a carefully prepared real-world crime.

What happened inside the Airbnb before Day finally called emergency services—and what did investigators uncover that revealed how much preparation had allegedly gone into the attack?
