GEORGIA DEPUTY ACCUSED OF SLAPPING 4-YEAR-OLD BOY SO HARD THAT OTHER CHILDREN HEARD IT THROUGH THE WALL
A former Georgia sheriff’s deputy is facing criminal charges after allegedly striking a 4-year-old child so forcefully that other children in a nearby room could hear the impact through the wall. Martin Simmons, 46, formerly worked for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and is accused of family violence battery and cruelty to children following an incident at an apartment in Flowery Branch, Georgia. According to investigators, the alleged assault occurred on September 9, 2026, after Simmons became involved in putting the young boy to bed.

Police said the child began crying because he did not want to go to sleep. According to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime, other people inside the home reportedly heard the sound of Simmons hitting the child from the other side of a closed bedroom door. An adult allegedly attempted to enter the room to intervene, but Simmons would not let the person inside. The situation escalated further when another child opened the door, prompting Simmons to reportedly yell at her.
Investigators allege that the slap left a significant hand-shaped mark on the boy’s face, with bruising becoming more visible the following day. Police said an adult in the home eventually positioned herself between Simmons and the children to prevent further confrontation. According to reports, the child also expressed a desire for Simmons to leave the home. The allegations prompted an investigation after the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services reported a suspected child-abuse incident to authorities.
The Oakwood Police Department took over the investigation and reportedly found evidence supporting criminal charges. Simmons was dismissed from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office on October 14, 2026, after an arrest warrant was issued. He had recently been promoted to investigator and was still undergoing training for the position when his employment ended. Simmons originally joined the agency as a jailer in July 2023, graduated from the police academy in September 2024 and later transferred to the patrol division.
Simmons was arrested and booked into the Hall County Jail before being released on bond, according to reports. Authorities have also indicated that he is no longer permitted to have contact with the child. His next court date had not been publicly listed in the report. The case has raised serious concerns about child safety and the responsibility of adults entrusted with protecting vulnerable children. Simmons faces allegations that have not yet been proven in court, and the criminal proceedings will determine the outcome of the case.
