Kansas Man Accused of Killing His Parents and Sister After Mother Asked Him to Sign Paperwork
A family gathering in Wichita, Kansas, ended in tragedy after three family members were found fatally shot inside their home. Authorities have charged 21-year-old Juan Valenzuela-Silva with capital murder in connection with the deaths of his parents and older sister. According to an arrest affidavit, the shooting occurred on September 26, 2026, while other family members, including his 2-year-old daughter, were inside the house.

The victims were identified as Juan Arnulfo Valenzuela-Ayala, 49, his wife, Brenda Silva-Cervantes, 40, and their daughter, Daisy Aracely Valenzuela, 25. Investigators say a witness saw Silva-Cervantes speaking with her son in the kitchen shortly before the shooting. During that conversation, she reportedly asked him to help her sign some paperwork. The witness said she did not notice any argument or signs of agitation between them at the time.
The situation allegedly escalated moments later. According to the affidavit, the witness went upstairs and subsequently heard a popping sound, followed by a scream believed to have come from Daisy. More gunshots followed, and the cries of a 2-year-old child could be heard. Valenzuela-Silva’s brother reportedly stepped out of a bedroom and urged someone to calm down. He later encountered the accused on the stairs, where the young man allegedly said he needed to get out of the house.

Investigators also heard accounts suggesting that Valenzuela-Silva had previously displayed suspicious or paranoid behavior. One witness told police that he had been angry with his father because he believed his father was speaking negatively about him. On an earlier occasion, he allegedly pulled a knife because he believed his father intended to kill him, though the situation was reportedly resolved without further violence. Authorities have not established whether these earlier incidents were directly connected to the fatal shooting.
In the aftermath, loved ones have shared emotional tributes honoring the three victims. Brenda was remembered as a kind and resilient woman who devoted herself to her family. Juan was described as someone who enjoyed repairing things, fishing, and working on his pickup truck. Daisy was remembered for her warm personality and her talent for hairstyling and makeup. A fundraising campaign was also established to help relatives with funeral arrangements, travel, and other unexpected expenses.
Valenzuela-Silva faces charges of capital murder involving multiple victims and aggravated endangering of a child. As of October 19, court records did not indicate whether he had entered a plea. The investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing, while the surviving family members are left to cope with the devastating loss of three loved ones.
