Killer Pleads Guilty to Stabbing Mother of Four to Death — Victim Pulled Knife From Her Own Back Before Collapsing
A 66-year-old man has admitted murdering a mother of four who was stabbed in the back and desperately pulled the knife from her own body before collapsing in the street. Charlene Dowsell, 41, died following the attack in Newport, Wales, on July 18, leaving her family devastated and four children without their mother.

Albert Williams appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on October 26, where he pleaded guilty to a single count of murder. He was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on December 21. The judge, Recorder of Cardiff Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, told him that the only sentence the court could impose for murder was life imprisonment.
Prosecutor Anna Parry previously told the court that Charlene had been stabbed in the back. Despite her injuries, the mother reportedly managed to pull the knife out herself and attempted to leave the scene. She collapsed in the street shortly afterward and died.
An inquest heard that the blade had penetrated Charlene’s lung, stomach and liver, causing fatal injuries. The attack took place near Newport County’s football ground, prompting an emergency response after reports of an altercation outside a property on St Vincent Road.
Gwent Police officers, including specially trained firearms officers, attended the scene. Witnesses reportedly saw a man and a woman struggling in the street before Charlene was found a short distance away. The circumstances surrounding the confrontation were examined as part of the investigation that led to Williams being charged with murder.

Charlene’s family previously paid an emotional tribute to the mother of four, describing her as their “beautiful daughter” and the foundation of their family. They said her death had left them heartbroken and struggling to imagine life without her. They also spoke of the devastating loss suffered by her four children, who would now have to grow up without their mother.
Williams’s guilty plea means the case will proceed to sentencing, when the court will determine the terms of his life sentence. For Charlene’s loved ones, however, the legal proceedings cannot undo the loss of a woman they say was deeply loved and whose absence has left an immeasurable void.
