MICHAEL BARGO GETS THE DEATH SENTENCE AGAIN — YEARS AFTER THE MURDER OF A FLORIDA TEEN

OCALA, FLORIDA — More than a decade after the killing of 15-year-old Seath Jackson, the case continues to stand as one of the most disturbing murder cases in Marion County.
At the center of it is Michael Bargo, who was convicted of first-degree murder in Jackson’s 2011 death.
But Bargo’s death sentence did not end the legal battle.
Instead, it would have to be imposed again.
A 15-YEAR-OLD NEVER MADE IT HOME
In April 2011, Seath Jackson was lured to a home in Summerfield, Florida.

According to court records, Bargo and several others were involved in a plan to ambush Jackson.
Jackson was attacked and shot multiple times. His body was later placed in a fire, and his remains were disposed of in paint buckets that were ultimately dumped in a quarry.
The details shocked the local community.
And investigators eventually arrested multiple people connected to the killing.
BARGO WAS CONVICTED — THEN HIS DEATH SENTENCE WAS OVERTURNED
Bargo was convicted of first-degree murder with a firearm.
In 2013, he was sentenced to death after a jury recommended the penalty by a 10–2 vote.
But years later, Florida’s legal landscape changed.
The Florida Supreme Court ordered a new penalty phase following legal developments surrounding jury recommendations for death sentences.
That meant Bargo’s conviction remained — but his original death sentence had to be reconsidered.
And the case returned to court.
THE SECOND DEATH SENTENCE
In 2019, a new jury unanimously recommended that Bargo receive the death penalty.
The prosecution argued that the killing was cold, calculated and premeditated.
The defense, meanwhile, presented evidence involving Bargo’s troubled family history and mental-health-related issues and asked the jury to recommend life in prison instead.
The jury ultimately reached a unanimous recommendation for death.
Bargo was sentenced to death for a second time.
THE CASE DIDN’T END THERE
Bargo continued challenging his sentence.
In June 2021, the Florida Supreme Court affirmed the death sentence imposed after the resentencing hearing, rejecting his claims that the sentence should be overturned.
The court’s opinion detailed evidence presented at trial, including testimony and evidence concerning Bargo’s role in the planning and killing of Jackson.
A CASE THAT HAS LASTED MORE THAN A DECADE
Seath Jackson was only 15 years old when he was killed.
More than a decade later, his name remains tied to a case that has gone through a murder trial, a death sentence, a resentencing and multiple appeals.
Bargo remains on Florida’s death row.
And while the legal proceedings have continued for years, one fact has never changed:
Seath Jackson never got the chance to turn 16.
His death left a family searching for justice — while the man convicted of killing him continues to challenge the punishment imposed by the courts.
One teenager. One deadly plan. A conviction. And a death sentence that had to be handed down twice.
The question now is not whether Bargo was convicted — he was. The question is how the case ultimately reaches its final chapter.
