Michigan Man Accused of Killing His Mother Left Chillingly Calm Voicemail After Fleeing, Police Say

A Michigan man is accused of fatally shooting his own mother just weeks after she and her husband welcomed him into their home following his eviction. What happened afterward has left investigators with disturbing questions, including why the suspect allegedly sounded remarkably calm in a voicemail to his father shortly after the shooting.

Ryan Hansen, 30, has been charged with open murder and felony firearm possession in connection with the death of his mother, Diane Kimar-Luman, 56, in Algoma Township, Michigan. According to court documents cited by local media, Hansen had been staying with his mother and stepfather for approximately two weeks after losing his previous housing.

Investigators said the shooting occurred on the morning of October 15, 2026. Family members reportedly told police that Hansen had a strained relationship with his mother and had previously expressed resentment toward her. Authorities allege that gunshots were heard inside the family home before his stepfather, Wayne Luman, discovered Kimar-Luman wounded on the kitchen floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

After allegedly fleeing in a blue Chevrolet Suburban, Hansen reportedly contacted his father using a stranger’s phone. In the voicemail, he said his own phone was dead and that his vehicle had broken down, asking his father to call him back. His father later described the message as “super calm,” a detail that added another unsettling dimension to the case.

The search for Hansen led police to the location where his vehicle had reportedly broken down. Officers found him preparing to leave in a taxi with his belongings. During a search, authorities allegedly discovered a Glock 17 handgun, a magazine holder and an AK-style rifle stored in a safe in the vehicle’s trunk. Police took Hansen into custody without the case ending in a further reported confrontation.

According to family statements cited in court records, Hansen had spoken about living off the grid and was reportedly receiving food and financial support from his mother and stepfather as he prepared for that lifestyle. Investigators are examining the family’s history and the events leading up to the fatal shooting. Hansen remains in custody, and the charges against him have yet to be resolved in court.
