Mystery Deepens After Newborn Baby Girl Is Found Dead on Welsh Shoreline as Police Continue Hunt for Her Missing Mother

A heartbreaking mystery continues to surround the death of a newborn baby girl whose body was discovered near a Welsh shoreline, as police intensify efforts to find her mother more than a month later. Investigators are still trying to establish what happened to the infant, known as Baby Ceri, and how she ended up near the Menai Strait in Bangor, North Wales.

The baby’s body was discovered on a road near the water on September 27, 2026, after a member of the public raised the alarm. The discovery prompted a major investigation by North Wales Police, who initially faced several unanswered questions about the child’s identity, where she had come from and the circumstances surrounding her death.

A post-mortem examination later indicated that the newborn may have been in the water for several weeks before she was found. Investigators are keeping an open mind about where she first entered the water, and they are consulting oceanographers to better understand the effects of sea currents. Police have said it is possible that the tide carried her from another part of Britain or even from Ireland.

Over the past month, officers have reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and distributed around 2,000 leaflets in the local area in an effort to find information that could help solve the mystery. Despite these extensive inquiries, police have not yet publicly identified the baby’s mother or established the full circumstances of her death.

Superintendent Llinos Davies said investigators remained determined to find answers for Baby Ceri. She described the case as heartbreaking for the community of Bangor and beyond, while appealing directly to the baby’s mother, father and other relatives to contact police. Authorities have stressed that they want anyone who may have information to come forward, even if they are uncertain whether it is relevant.

Police have also issued a direct appeal to the child’s mother, emphasizing that a confidential phone line remains available around the clock. A trained specialist is ready to listen and provide support. Officials have acknowledged that the mother may be frightened or struggling to seek help, and they have urged her to make contact so that her safety and well-being can be addressed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact North Wales Police on 101 or provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. The baby’s mother can also call or text the dedicated line at 07974 241223. For now, investigators continue to pursue every possible lead in the hope of establishing what happened to Baby Ceri and bringing answers to a case that has deeply affected the local community.
