Nearly eight months after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Arizona home, investigators have ruled out a new ransom message that briefly raised fresh questions about the case.

The latest development came after the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI task force investigating Guthrie’s disappearance learned of a message circulating online that allegedly claimed to have information about the missing 84-year-old.

Investigators initially said they were examining the message and related social media activity to determine whether it was credible.

After further review, however, authorities concluded that the message was not credible.

The development is the latest twist in a case that has remained unresolved since Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson-area home in the early hours of February 1.

AUTHORITIES FIRST INVESTIGATED THE NEW MESSAGE
The possible new ransom communication emerged over the weekend and quickly drew attention because of the amount of time that had passed since Guthrie vanished.

Authorities have released surveillance footage showing a masked, armed individual appearing to interfere with a camera outside Guthrie’s home around the time she disappeared.
