Nurse Andrea Cantarini Killed in Bronx Murder-Suicide After Desperate 14-Minute Call to Her Father — Boyfriend Allegedly Said “It’s Over for Her”

A 37-year-old nurse and mother was killed in a suspected murder-suicide inside her Bronx apartment after a terrifying phone call left her father listening helplessly as the situation unfolded. Andrea Cantarini was found dead alongside her 38-year-old boyfriend, Juan Cornelio Diaz, in their Riverdale home on November 3, 2026. Before police arrived, Andrea’s father had reportedly received a call during which he heard his daughter screaming and what sounded like multiple gunshots. The case has shocked the community and renewed attention to the dangers of domestic violence.

According to reports, Andrea’s father called 911 after receiving the disturbing phone call. Sources cited by amNewYork said Diaz could be heard making the chilling statement, “It’s over for her.” The New York Police Department has not independently confirmed that specific remark. A separate account from the New York Post, citing Andrea’s father, described a 14-minute call during which Andrea pleaded for her life while Diaz allegedly held her at gunpoint. Her father reportedly begged him to let her go, but the call ended in devastating circumstances.

When officers arrived at the apartment building on Blackstone Avenue, they found Andrea and Diaz suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. Emergency medical personnel pronounced both dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered, and investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Police have not publicly released a final determination of the motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Andrea had worked hard to build a career in healthcare while raising her young daughter. She earned her nursing diploma in 2025, completing her studies while caring for her child. Before becoming a registered nurse with the St. Barnabas Health System, she had also worked as a mental health worker at a psychiatric hospital. Her journey into nursing reflected years of effort and dedication, making her death especially heartbreaking to colleagues, friends and family.

Her father’s account also revealed that Andrea had reportedly wanted to end the relationship. The New York Post reported that Diaz had allegedly threatened her with a gun earlier that day, while Andrea’s family and friends had urged her not to return to the apartment. These details remain part of the reporting surrounding the case and have not all been independently confirmed by police. The couple shared a six-year-old daughter, who has now lost her mother in deeply traumatic circumstances.

For Andrea’s family, the tragedy is not simply a crime story but the loss of a daughter, mother and healthcare worker whose future was cut short. Her father was reportedly still on the phone when the fatal violence occurred, an experience no parent should ever have to endure. As investigators continue their work, loved ones are left remembering Andrea for the life she built, the education she pursued and the child she devoted herself to raising.
