Pennsylvania Family Mass Shooting: Gunman Was the Grandfather of Young Victims, Grieving Father Reveals

A devastating family tragedy in Erie, Pennsylvania, has left an entire community searching for answers after a gunman killed eight people, including two young children and a pregnant woman who was just days away from giving birth. The case has become even more heartbreaking after the father of one of the youngest victims revealed that the shooter was the children’s own grandfather — a man whose behavior had never appeared alarming to him.

The shooting happened on Friday, October 9, 2026, at a home in Erie, a city approximately 120 miles north of Pittsburgh. Police responded to emergency calls at around 5 p.m. and discovered multiple victims both inside and outside the property. The 45-year-old gunman later died by suicide, bringing the total number of deaths to eight, including the shooter. Authorities said seven of the victims were related to him, while the remaining victim was a friend of the pregnant woman.

Among those killed was one-year-old Amari’anna, whose father, Julius Windham, is struggling to comprehend the loss of his little girl. The child’s mother, 24-year-old Angelina Stone, was also killed, along with her five-year-old son, Isiah, and her unborn baby, Kyrie. Angelina was reportedly only days away from her due date. In a matter of moments, the family lost a mother, two young children and a baby who had not yet been born.

Speaking at a memorial outside the home on Sunday, Windham said he had never viewed the children’s grandfather as someone capable of such violence. He recalled how the man would smile and behave normally in everyday life, making the tragedy all the more difficult to understand. “I think that was a front for him,” Windham told the Associated Press, reflecting on how someone who seemed ordinary could be connected to such devastating events.

Windham appeared at the memorial wearing a T-shirt bearing photographs of his loved ones and the words “Forever In My Heart.” Although overwhelmed by grief, he said he was trying to remain strong for his family and community. His words reflected the impossible burden now facing those left behind: mourning several loved ones at once while trying to understand why the violence happened.

Investigators have also described disturbing details about the moments leading up to the discovery. According to Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah, video and audio evidence captured sounds of gunfire coming from inside the house before two distressed women arrived and began pounding on the door. The gunman then reportedly came outside and shot the women as they approached him before returning inside. Officers later found the two women dead outside, while the bodies of the children and other victims were discovered inside the home.

The victims’ deaths have shaken neighbors and longtime family friends, many of whom said they never imagined such a tragedy could occur. Two friends who had known the family for more than 30 years described the shooter as someone who had once seemed like a good person, but whose behavior they believed had deteriorated. Their recollections have added to the unanswered questions surrounding the case.

Police have not established a motive for the shooting. Chief Lorah said investigators would continue interviewing relatives and examining evidence, including the cellphones of the two women killed outside the home, to determine what may have led to the violence. Authorities have emphasized the seriousness of the investigation as the community mourns the victims.

For Windham and the surviving relatives, the loss extends far beyond the crime scene. They must now make funeral arrangements for loved ones whose lives were cut short, including children who had barely begun theirs. As investigators continue searching for answers, a family and an entire Pennsylvania community are left confronting a tragedy that has shattered generations in a single afternoon.
