Soaked White Rabbit Lifted Clear of a Rushing Nursery Drainage Channel and Settled Into a Rescue Carrier

April 28, 2025 — 16:37 local time

A small white rabbit was rescued from a flooded drainage channel beside a commercial plant nursery on Monday afternoon, as heavy rain turned the channel into a fast-moving stream of muddy water between the greenhouse rows.

Chest-mounted bodycam footage recorded by the rescuer, timestamped 16:37:12, opens with the rabbit already held safely in both of his black-gloved hands above the rushing water. Its white fur is soaked through and streaked with mud, its large pink ears are raised, and its long whiskers tremble as it looks nervously toward the far bank. Behind it, transparent greenhouses, rows of potted plants and muddy walkways stretch away under dark storm clouds.

In the footage, the rescuer — wearing a bright royal-blue waterproof flood rescue jacket and a utility harness with emergency clips — does not hurry. He slowly adjusts his hold beneath the rabbit’s chest and hindquarters so its whole weight stays supported. The rabbit blinks, turns its head slightly toward the camera, and its wet ears twitch as rain shakes loose from its fur.

Rather than carrying the rabbit away through the flooded nursery, the rescuer stays in place at the channel’s edge and lowers it gently downward into an open red animal rescue carrier waiting on the raised bank in front of him, a dry towel laid inside. The rabbit settles onto the towel, alert at first, then visibly calmer, while the muddy water keeps roaring past at the edge of the frame.

The entire rescue was captured in a single continuous bodycam shot. No music or narration accompanies the recording — only rushing muddy water, heavy rainfall, rustling greenhouse plastic, distant wind and the faint movements of the rabbit.

Drainage channels around nurseries and farms can become dangerous traps for small animals during storms, rising faster than short legs can escape. This rabbit was reached in time — cold, muddy and frightened, but safe, warm and dry in its carrier.
