Spanish Soccer Player Jesús de Miguel Dies at 30 After On-Field Collision, Leaving Behind a Young Daughter and Heartbroken Family
The Spanish soccer community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jesús de Miguel, a 30-year-old forward for CD Tenerife who died after a frightening collision during a match against FC Andorra. What began as a routine night of competition turned into a tragedy that stunned players and fans across the country. De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest after the incident and died in hospital on the morning of November 3, 2026, leaving behind his partner, María, and their young daughter.

The collision happened during stoppage time of the match on November 2, with the score tied 2–2. De Miguel was chasing a long ball when Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out of his goal to challenge for it. The two players collided, and De Miguel fell to the ground unconscious. Medical staff immediately rushed onto the field and worked to save him for several minutes as players from both teams watched in distress. He was eventually carried away on a stretcher and transported to a hospital in Tenerife. Although medical personnel managed to restore his pulse, his condition remained critical. The match was abandoned before its conclusion.
News of his death sent shockwaves through Spanish football. CD Tenerife announced the loss in an emotional statement, expressing its devastation and extending its support to De Miguel’s family and loved ones. His family later thanked teammates, friends, supporters, and clubs for the messages of sympathy, saying that seeing how deeply he was loved and the impact he had made on so many people was something they would carry with them. His partner and their 16-month-old daughter had been at the stadium during the match, making the loss especially painful for those close to him.
De Miguel had spent years working his way through Spanish football, playing for several clubs before joining Tenerife in 2025. His journey included spells with Leganés B, Fuenlabrada, Navalcarnero, Unionistas de Salamanca, and Castellón. He became an important figure during Castellón’s promotion campaign and scored 11 goals in the previous season before continuing his career with Tenerife. Teammates remembered him not only as a dedicated footballer but also as a humble, hardworking person who was always willing to help others. His nickname among those who knew him was “Demi.”
Tributes came from clubs and figures throughout the sport, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético Madrid. Players and officials traveled to Navahermosa, the town where his family is from, to attend his funeral on November 5. His teammates carried his coffin, while mourners gathered to say goodbye to a man whose life and career ended far too soon. Spanish police opened judicial proceedings to examine the circumstances of the death, a procedure used in cases involving deaths that may not have been from natural causes. Authorities have not established criminal responsibility, and the investigation should not be mistaken for a finding of wrongdoing. For his family, however, the focus is on grieving a beloved partner and father whose absence leaves a lasting void.
