Teen Girl Survives Horrific Crash That Killed 3 Friends — Then Spends Two Weeks in Hospital Without Her Family Knowing Where She Is

A 16-year-old girl survived a devastating car crash that claimed the lives of three of her friends, but the tragedy took an agonizing turn when her family spent nearly two weeks unaware that she was alive and recovering in a hospital. The teenager, identified by authorities as “Marta,” had reportedly climbed into a car without knowing it was stolen. What began as a night out with friends ended in a fatal police pursuit, leaving three teenagers dead and one young girl fighting for her life.

The crash happened shortly after midnight on September 28, 2026, in Virginia. According to Virginia State Police, a trooper spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen and attempted to pull it over. Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly sped away, leading officers on a high-speed chase through the area before entering Interstate 395. The pursuit ended when the vehicle lost control while attempting to take an exit ramp and slammed into a concrete barrier.

Four teenagers were inside the car. A 17-year-old boy died at the scene, while two 16-year-old boys, including the driver, later died at a hospital. Marta was the only survivor. Police said none of the four occupants was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The surviving girl suffered life-threatening injuries and required an extended hospital stay as she began recovering from the devastating impact.

According to Marta’s sister, who spoke to Spanish-language broadcaster Telemundo, the teenager had received permission from their mother to leave their Maryland home and spend time with friends. Her family said she did not know the vehicle was stolen when she got inside. Less than an hour before the crash, Marta reportedly called her family using the driver’s phone. During the conversation, she expressed a desire to go home, but the others allegedly told her they wanted to go elsewhere first.

As the situation became increasingly frightening, Marta reportedly sensed that something was wrong. Her sister recounted that the teenager grabbed the seat and repeatedly asked the others to stop because she wanted to get out of the car. But before she could escape, police recognized the stolen vehicle and began pursuing it. The driver allegedly continued at high speed, ultimately losing control on the exit ramp. Marta’s account, as relayed by her sister, paints a heartbreaking picture of a teenager who wanted to leave a dangerous situation but was unable to get away in time.

While Marta struggled to recover from her injuries, her family endured a separate ordeal: not knowing where she was or what had happened to her. According to Virginia State Police, the girl remained hospitalized for approximately two weeks before authorities reunited her with her relatives. Her family had been trying to find her, unaware that she was alive but receiving medical treatment. The delay left loved ones facing an agonizing period of uncertainty following a night that had already claimed three young lives.

Marta has since been reunited with her family and continues to recover from her injuries, according to reports. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain a painful reminder of how quickly a seemingly ordinary outing can turn into a life-changing tragedy. Three families are grieving the loss of their sons, while Marta and her relatives must begin the difficult process of healing from both the physical injuries and emotional trauma. For her family, finding out that she was alive brought relief, but that relief came after two weeks of fear and unanswered questions.
