Texas Man Gunned Down After Argument Outside Business Just Weeks After Moving Home to Be Near Family

A Texas man who had recently returned home to be closer to his family was fatally shot following an argument outside a business in Garland. The victim, identified by relatives as Carlos Ramos, had moved back to Texas from New Jersey only about two weeks before his death. His sudden loss has left loved ones grieving a tragedy that unfolded in the early hours of the morning.

According to the Garland Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting at a shopping center at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, they found a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Paramedics attempted to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not publicly identify the victim, but his family later confirmed to local NBC affiliate KXAS that he was Ramos.

Investigators allege that Ramos and 31-year-old Ezequiel Hernandez had gotten into an argument inside one of the businesses earlier that night. According to Ramos’ brother, Jeremy, the disagreement began while the two men were playing pool. After the business closed, the pair reportedly continued their conversation outside in the parking lot. Authorities allege that the confrontation escalated and Hernandez shot Ramos multiple times.

After the shooting, Hernandez allegedly fled in a white Ford F-250. Police tracked the vehicle to a residence in Mesquite, Texas, where they took him into custody. Hernandez was subsequently charged with murder and is being held at the Garland Detention Center without bond, according to Law&Crime. A next court date had not been publicly announced in the report.

For Ramos’ family, the circumstances surrounding his death make the loss especially difficult. His brother said Carlos had returned to Texas hoping to be closer to his loved ones. He also left behind a teenage son, adding another layer of heartbreak for a family now facing life without him.

The case remains a criminal matter, and the allegations against Hernandez have not been proven in court. Investigators are continuing to examine the events that led to the fatal confrontation as the legal process moves forward.
