Toddler and Grandparents Found Dead in Ohio Home After Chilling 911 Calls: Authorities Reveal Their Identities
A heartbreaking discovery in Ohio has left a community searching for answers after a 22-month-old boy and his two grandparents were found dead inside a home following a series of disturbing emergency calls. Authorities believe the deaths may be connected to a murder-suicide, although the investigation remains ongoing and officials have yet to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The victims were identified as Kozzar J. Lotut, 22 months old, Melissa E. Campbell, 51, and Gale F. Sanders, 67. Their bodies were discovered on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, inside a residence in Gnadenhutten, a village in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. According to the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, all three victims had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation began shortly after 4 a.m., when emergency dispatchers received a 911 call that disconnected before its location could initially be determined. Dispatchers repeatedly attempted to contact the caller. During one of those attempts, they reportedly heard a faint voice softly saying the word “help,” raising concern that someone at the other end of the call could be in danger.
Authorities continued working to trace the phone number and eventually contacted the person who owned the phone. Investigators learned that the device had been loaned to someone else, giving them another lead to pursue. After examining several possible locations, officers traced the phone to the home in Gnadenhutten. A family member was present at the scene and allowed officers to enter the residence, where they made the devastating discovery.
Investigators have said the evidence currently points toward a possible murder-suicide. A firearm was reportedly recovered near one of the deceased individuals, but authorities have not publicly clarified who may have fired the weapon or provided a definitive account of how the deaths occurred. The precise sequence of events remains unknown, and investigators are continuing to examine the evidence.
The deaths have drawn particular attention because of the young child’s age and his relationship with the two adults. According to reports, Campbell and Sanders were Kozzar’s grandparents and frequently helped care for him because he had medical disabilities. Their role in his daily care makes the tragedy especially difficult to comprehend for those learning about the case.
The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities of the three victims and stated that the official causes and manners of death were pending autopsies conducted through the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. Although authorities have confirmed that all three died from gunshot wounds, important questions remain unanswered, including the events that led to the emergency calls and what happened inside the home before police arrived.
As the investigation continues, officials are working to establish a clearer timeline and determine the circumstances behind the three deaths. The faint plea for help heard during the early-morning 911 calls has become one of the most unsettling details of the case, underscoring how a routine emergency response led authorities to a devastating scene. For now, the community is left mourning the loss of a toddler and his grandparents while investigators work to uncover the truth.
