Trucker Stabbed 17 Times in Wyoming Rest Stop Bathroom — Suspect Allegedly Followed Him Inside Before Fleeing in His Semi

A California truck driver survived a terrifying attack after a man allegedly followed him into a public restroom at a Wyoming highway rest stop and stabbed him 17 times. The incident happened in the early morning hours of September 13, 2026, at the Bitter Creek Rest Area near Rock Springs. The victim, 28-year-old Gurvinder Singh, was taking a break during his route when the encounter turned into a violent assault that nearly cost him his life. The suspect, Andrew Bzdak, 44, is now facing an attempted first-degree murder charge.

According to investigators, surveillance footage showed Singh entering the restroom at approximately 3:30 a.m. A short time later, another man, later identified as Bzdak, entered the same building. Moments afterward, Bzdak was allegedly seen running out of the restroom area. Singh then emerged, staggering before collapsing outside. Witnesses reported hearing sounds of a struggle and cries for help coming from inside the men’s restroom. A family at the rest stop noticed what was happening and rushed to assist the injured driver.

Singh told police that he had been attacked from behind. He reportedly managed to push his assailant away long enough to see that the man was holding a blue knife. According to court documents, the attack left him with 17 stab wounds, including two to his chest and two to his neck. Blood was found inside the restroom and around the building. Singh was airlifted to a hospital in Casper, where he received emergency treatment. He later survived and was discharged to recover with his family.

After the stabbing, witnesses reportedly saw the suspect run toward a semitruck and drive away. Rather than simply watching him disappear, a family at the rest stop followed the truck east along Interstate 80, recording identifying details and photographs that they provided to authorities. Wyoming Highway Patrol officers located the vehicle near a Flying J truck stop around 5 a.m. Bzdak was arrested without incident. Investigators later reported finding a shopping bag containing clothing and wet wipes that appeared to have blood on them.

The motive remains unclear. Singh is a Sikh truck driver from Sacramento, California, and the seemingly unprovoked nature of the attack has raised concerns within the Sikh community about possible bias. However, Sweetwater County authorities have said they have not established a motive, and prosecutors have stated there is currently no indication that the assault was a hate crime. Singh reportedly told investigators that his attacker did not say anything before stabbing him. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Bzdak remains in custody at the Sweetwater County Detention Center on a $1 million surety bond. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder, an offense that could carry a life sentence if he is convicted. His next court date has not been publicly announced. For Singh, the road to recovery continues after an attack that could have ended very differently. He has expressed gratitude toward the family who helped him and pursued the fleeing truck, crediting their actions with helping save his life.
