Two Young Siblings Die in Devastating RV Fire — Now Their Parents Face Murder Charges
A devastating fire in Texas claimed the lives of two young siblings who were trapped inside a recreational vehicle, leaving their family and community grieving an unimaginable loss. Months after the tragedy, the children’s parents are now facing felony murder charges as investigators continue working to establish exactly what happened in the moments before the blaze erupted.

The victims were identified as 4-year-old Mavryck “Mavy” Len and his 3-year-old sister, Skylar Jayne Chambers. The siblings were remembered in their obituary as inseparable, sharing a special closeness that made their loss even more heartbreaking. Their lives were cut short on the morning of August 11, when a fire engulfed the RV on a wooded property along County Road 3819 near Cleveland, Texas.
Firefighters from the Cleveland Fire Department rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call reporting that the RV was burning and people were trapped inside. When emergency crews arrived, the trailer was already engulfed in flames and beginning to collapse. Despite the dangerous conditions, firefighters reportedly crawled inside to battle the fire and search for the children. Tragically, they found both youngsters inside the RV, near its front section. The children were pronounced dead at the scene.

In the weeks that followed, investigators examined the scene and conducted interviews to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The investigation led authorities to arrest the children’s parents, 30-year-old Meaghan Michelle Herrod and 39-year-old Matthew Allen Chambers. Both were charged with two counts of felony murder and were being held at the Liberty County Jail, with bond set at $1 million each. Authorities have not yet publicly established the precise cause of the fire, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The children’s grandmother offered a heartbreaking account of what happened when the fire broke out. She told local news outlet KHOU 11 that the parents had just walked from their RV to her daughter’s house when a neighbor began shouting that there was a fire and someone needed to call 911. The family rushed back toward the trailer, but by then the flames had spread rapidly. According to the grandmother, her daughter managed to open the door, only to discover that the RV was already engulfed. It was too late to save the children.
Investigators are also working to determine where the parents were when the fire began and to reconstruct the events leading up to the emergency call. The Liberty County Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office. A chaplain was also brought in to provide support to the grieving family and the firefighters who responded to the devastating scene.
For those who knew Mavryck and Skylar, the case is about more than an investigation or criminal charges. It is the loss of two very young lives, siblings whose future together was taken away in a matter of moments. As their parents face the legal process and investigators continue searching for answers, the central question remains what led to the fire and whether the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths could have been prevented. The charges are allegations, and the case will proceed through the justice system as authorities work to establish the facts.
