Kelvin Fuller, 20, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder in connection with the July 23, 2025, attack at a Walmart Supercenter in Collinsville, Illinois. According to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office, Fuller told police he attacked the woman because he believed she had “disrespected” him. The victim was reportedly a newer employee at the store.

Court documents described how the attack unfolded in the middle of an ordinary workday. The woman was behind the deli counter talking with another employee when Fuller approached her from behind. He allegedly dragged a knife across her neck. When she managed to pull away, he continued the assault, stabbing her approximately five times in the neck, arm, shoulder and back. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the incident, as customers and fellow employees rushed to intervene.

The victim suffered numerous stab wounds and required multiple surgeries to repair her internal injuries. According to court documents, Fuller admitted bringing a knife and black gloves to work and putting them on before attacking his co-worker. He also acknowledged stabbing her repeatedly and reportedly told investigators that he did not believe she could survive the injuries. When the woman managed to escape, Fuller indicated that he was still looking for her and would have continued the attack if he had found her.

The intervention of customers and other Walmart employees helped stop the assault. Fuller fled the store but was arrested a short distance away. The case moved forward through the Madison County court system, where he ultimately pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder. Two aggravated battery charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. On October 28, 2026, he received a 25-year prison sentence.

Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine praised the people who stepped in to help, saying their actions may have prevented an even greater tragedy. The sentence brings a major development in a case that began with an alleged workplace grievance but escalated into a near-fatal attack. For the victim, the physical consequences required extensive medical treatment, while the case serves as a stark reminder of how quickly violence can erupt in an ordinary workplace.
