Woman Calls 911 on Herself After Driving 36 Miles the Wrong Way While Intoxicated — Then Allegedly Tries to Kiss Arresting Trooper

A 42-year-old Chicago woman was arrested in Indiana after allegedly driving while intoxicated for approximately 36 miles in the wrong direction on an interstate, calling 911 on herself along the way, and then making unwanted advances toward the state trooper who stopped her. Meisha Thomas was taken into custody early Sunday morning, November 1, 2026, after an incident that began with an unusual emergency call and ended with multiple criminal charges.

According to Indiana State Police, dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 1:36 a.m. from a woman who sounded highly intoxicated and provided erratic information. Authorities later identified the caller as Thomas. Dispatchers tracked her cellphone signal and determined that she was traveling southbound on Interstate 65 near the 240-mile marker. A responding trooper located her vehicle after it entered Jasper County and noticed that it was traveling between 30 and 50 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Police said the vehicle was swerving between lanes, obstructing traffic and forcing other motorists to brake or take evasive action to avoid a collision. When the trooper activated emergency lights and sirens, Thomas initially continued driving before eventually stopping in the left lane of the interstate. During the encounter, the trooper allegedly noticed several signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, poor coordination and a strong smell of alcohol.

Thomas reportedly told the trooper that she had just left a casino in Gary, Indiana, and was heading home to Chicago. Investigators determined that she had traveled approximately 36 miles in the wrong direction. Due to her apparent level of impairment, police said she could not safely complete a standardized field sobriety test. She also refused testing under Indiana’s implied consent law, prompting investigators to obtain a search warrant for a blood sample, which was collected at a nearby hospital.

But the encounter reportedly took another unexpected turn while the trooper was attempting to secure Thomas in a seat belt. According to the police account, she repeatedly made inappropriate sexual comments and physical advances toward the officer, including allegedly trying to kiss him. Even after being instructed several times to stop, she reportedly continued making kissing gestures and suggestive sounds. Police said one of these incidents resulted in an additional charge of battery against a public safety official.

Thomas was transported to the Jasper County Jail and faces four preliminary charges: battery against a public safety official engaged in official duty, a Level 6 felony; operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering another person; operating a vehicle while intoxicated; and reckless driving. Authorities have not announced a confirmed date for her next court appearance. The investigation remains ongoing, and the results of the blood test have not been publicly reported.
