🤠 HIS SECRET BRIDE

PART 1: I DISCOVERED I WAS MARRIED TO A COWBOY I’D NEVER MET!
I was just a waitress in a dusty little Western town.
I had no rich family, no powerful connections, and certainly no plans to get married.
But one morning, I walked into the county courthouse to renew my identification papers and discovered something that nearly made me faint.
According to the official records, I had been married for three years.
And my husband?
A wealthy, handsome cowboy named Alexander Hayes.
The strangest part?
I had never met him in my entire life.
My name is Lily Bennett. I was 24 years old and had spent most of my life working at the Red Rose Saloon in a small town called Dusty Creek.
My days were simple. I served drinks, listened to cowboys argue about horses, and saved every dollar I could to buy a little house of my own.
Love was the last thing on my mind.
Especially after watching my mother spend her entire life waiting for a man who never came home.
Then everything changed on a Tuesday morning.
I was standing at the courthouse counter when the clerk suddenly frowned at her computer.
“Miss Bennett, there’s something unusual in your records.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“What kind of unusual?”
She turned the screen toward me.
“According to this document, you’re legally married.”
I laughed.
“That’s impossible. I’ve never been married!”
The clerk shook her head.
“Your marriage certificate was registered three years ago. Your husband’s name is Alexander Hayes.”
My smile disappeared.
Alexander Hayes.
Even I knew that name.
He owned the largest ranch in the county, hundreds of acres of land, and some of the finest horses in the West.
He was famous for being wealthy, handsome, and incredibly difficult to approach.
Women in town talked about him constantly.
But why on earth would a man like that marry me?
I stared at the certificate.
My signature was there.
It looked exactly like mine.
And beneath it was a photograph of a tall cowboy wearing a black hat, a dark vest, and a silver belt buckle.
He had sharp features, dark hair, and the kind of eyes that could make anyone forget what they were saying.
I felt a chill run down my spine.
“Where can I find him?” I asked.
The clerk hesitated.
“Hayes Ranch. But, sweetheart, I’d be careful. Mr. Hayes isn’t exactly a friendly man.”
I didn’t care.
I needed answers.
That afternoon, I rode to Hayes Ranch.
The property was enormous, with green pastures, wooden fences, and horses running freely beneath the golden sun.
As I approached the main house, a black horse suddenly appeared beside the gate.
A man was riding it.
The cowboy from the photograph.
He stopped in front of me and looked me over.
“Can I help you?”
I swallowed.
“Are you Alexander Hayes?”
His eyes narrowed.
“Who’s asking?”
I took a deep breath.
“Your wife.”
For several seconds, he didn’t move.
Then he slowly dismounted.
“My what?”
I pulled the marriage certificate from my bag and handed it to him.
He looked at the document.
His jaw tightened.
“Where did you get this?”
“The courthouse. Apparently, we’ve been married for three years.”
He stared at me, then let out a short, humorless laugh.
“That’s impossible.”
“Tell that to the government!”
He looked at my signature again.
Then something strange happened.
His expression changed completely.
He looked less angry and more frightened.
“What’s your mother’s name?” he suddenly asked.
I frowned.
“What does my mother have to do with this?”
“Just answer me.”
“Margaret Bennett.”
Alexander closed his eyes.
For a moment, he looked as if someone had just punched him in the stomach.
Then he turned toward the house.
“Come inside.”
“Not until you explain what’s going on!”
He stopped at the doorway.
“Lily, there’s something you don’t know about your family.”
My heart began racing.
“What?”
He looked directly into my eyes.
“Your mother and my father made a promise twenty-five years ago. A promise that involved you and me.”
I stepped backward.
“That’s ridiculous. I’ve never even met you!”
Alexander walked to an old wooden desk and opened a locked drawer.
He pulled out a yellowed envelope with my name written across it.
My hands trembled as I took it.
Inside was an old photograph.
It showed a little girl standing beside a young boy in front of a ranch house.
The girl was me.
I recognized my childhood dress immediately.
But the boy standing beside me…
Was Alexander.
I looked up at him in disbelief.
“How is this possible?”
His voice dropped to a whisper.
“Because, Lily, we didn’t meet for the first time today.”
He paused.
“We were supposed to get married when we were children. And someone has spent the last twenty-five years making sure you never remembered me.”
Before I could ask another question, a gunshot echoed from outside.
Alexander immediately pulled me behind him.
Then someone shouted from the darkness:
“GET AWAY FROM THAT GIRL, HAYES! SHE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT YOU REALLY DID!”
Alexander’s face turned pale.
He looked at me and whispered:
“Don’t trust anyone in this town. Not even the people who claim they love you.”
