đ€ THE COWBOY NEXT DOOR

PART 1: I HATED MY HANDSOME COWBOY NEIGHBOR⊠UNTIL HE KISSED ME!
I moved to the countryside to find peace, fresh air, and a quiet life.
Instead, I got a grumpy cowboy neighbor who seemed determined to make every single day of my life miserable.
And the worst part?
He was ridiculously handsome.
My name is Emma Wilson. I was 25 years old when I left the noisy city and moved into my grandmother’s old farmhouse in a little Western town called Willow Creek.
After a terrible breakup and months of working nonstop, I wanted nothing more than a fresh start.
I imagined peaceful mornings, beautiful sunsets, and maybe a little gardening.
What I didn’t imagine was meeting the most irritating man in the entire county.
His name was Jake Carter.
He owned the ranch next door, had more horses than I could count, and apparently believed the entire countryside belonged to him.
Our first meeting happened on my very first morning.
I was standing in my garden, wearing an old pink dress and watering my flowers, when a loud voice came from across the wooden fence.
“Hey! You’re watering the wrong side!”
I turned around.
A tall cowboy was leaning against the fence, holding a cup of coffee.
He wore a faded blue shirt, worn jeans, and a brown cowboy hat. His dark hair was messy, his jaw was covered with stubble, and his smile was annoyingly attractive.
“Excuse me?”
“Your water is flooding my property.”
I looked down.
A tiny stream of water was running toward his side of the fence.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize water needed your permission to cross the border.”
He chuckled.
“Funny girl.”
“Annoying cowboy.”
He tipped his hat.
“Jake Carter. Your new neighbor.”
“Emma Wilson. And I already don’t like you.”
He smiled wider.
“Give it a week, sweetheart.”
I rolled my eyes.
I should have known that was only the beginning.
The following morning, I woke up to find three enormous cows standing in my garden.
They had destroyed my flowers, eaten my vegetables, and left a rather unpleasant surprise on my front lawn.
I stormed toward Jake’s ranch.
“YOUR COWS ARE IN MY GARDEN!”
He came out of the barn, laughing.
“Looks like they like your flowers.”
“Well, I don’t like your cows!”
“Want me to buy you some new flowers?”
“I want you to keep your animals away from my property!”
He raised both hands.
“All right, all right. Don’t bite me.”
I pointed a finger at him.
“You’re impossible!”
“And you’re cute when you’re angry.”
I froze.
He winked and walked away.
I stood there, completely speechless.
Who did this man think he was?
Over the next few weeks, Jake and I became experts at arguing.
He complained about my music.
I complained about his noisy horses.
He accused me of parking too close to his fence.
I accused him of deliberately letting his chickens wander into my yard.
But something strange started happening.
Whenever my car broke down, Jake appeared with his toolbox.
Whenever I struggled to carry heavy bags, he would quietly take them from my hands.
And whenever a storm rolled across the valley, I noticed that my porch light was always working again the next morning.
He never admitted to doing any of it.
One evening, I was struggling to fix a broken fence when Jake walked over.
“Need a hand?”
“No.”
He looked at the crooked wooden post.
“Clearly.”
“Why do you always have to be so annoying?”
He stepped closer and gently took the hammer from my hand.
“Because you make it too easy.”
We both laughed.
For the first time, being around him didn’t feel like a competition.
As the sun began setting, we sat on the porch drinking lemonade.
Jake told me stories about his childhood, his first horse, and the ranch his grandfather had built.
I discovered that beneath his teasing personality was a man with a kind heart.
Then he suddenly became quiet.
“Emma, can I ask you something?”
“Sure.”
“Why did you really move here?”
I stared at my glass.
“My fiancĂ© cheated on me. I found out he was planning to marry someone else while I was working two jobs to pay for our future.”
Jake’s smile disappeared.
“His loss.”
I looked at him.
“What?”
He shrugged.
“Some men are stupid enough to lose a good woman.”
My cheeks turned red.
Before I could answer, he gently brushed a strand of hair away from my face.
For a moment, the whole world seemed to stop.
Then he leaned closer.
And kissed me.
It was unexpected, warm, and far more wonderful than I wanted to admit.
When he pulled away, I stared at him.
“Jake…”
“Yeah?”
“Does this mean we’re finally done arguing?”
He laughed.
“Not a chance, sweetheart.”
I smiled.
But just as I was about to kiss him again, a truck suddenly pulled into my driveway.
A beautiful blonde woman stepped out.
She looked at Jake, then at me.
Her expression turned furious.
“Jake Carter! What the hell are you doing kissing MY fiancĂ©?”
My smile vanished.
I slowly turned toward him.
Jake stood up, his face completely pale.
“Emma, I can explain.”
I stepped away.
“Your fiancĂ©?”
The blonde woman crossed her arms.
“Oh, you poor girl. Didn’t he tell you? We’re getting married next Saturday.”
I looked at Jake, waiting for him to deny it.
But he said nothing.
Then he finally whispered:
“Emma, there’s something I’ve been trying to tell you…”
TO BE CONTINUED…
â€ïž Would you forgive Jake if you were Emma? Or would you walk away before hearing his explanation?
