HALDEN, NORWAY — It was supposed to be a quiet Sunday morning in the Norwegian countryside.

A group of hunters had gathered near Halden, preparing to divide their hunting positions before heading into the woods.

Then gunshots rang out.

What followed left two people dead and another seriously injured — and investigators now believe the violence may have been connected to a conflict involving the suspect and the hunting group.

The shooting happened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, east of Ørsjøen near Halden, as a hunting party was gathered at a farm property. According to police, the group had 14 members.

A man in his 70s and his son, who was in his 40s, were killed. Another man in his 40s was seriously wounded and airlifted to a hospital.

THEN POLICE ARRESTED A MAN IN HIS 20s

SĂN BẮN Ở NA UYThe suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

Authorities say he had a connection to the hunting group and had previously been part of it — a detail that has dramatically changed the direction of the investigation. Police now say their main theory is that a conflict led to the shooting.

The suspect allegedly used a hunting rifle and put the weapon down after the shooting. Members of the hunting party reportedly kept him under observation until police arrived. He is now suspected of two killings and an attempted killing.

BUT WHAT CAUSED THE CONFLICT?

That may be the biggest unanswered question.

Police have said there was a connection between the suspect and the hunting group, and information gathered during questioning supports the theory that an underlying dispute may have triggered the violence.

But investigators have not publicly laid out the full nature of that conflict.

And that leaves a disturbing timeline:

A group of hunters gathered for a normal morning in the woods.

A confrontation apparently unfolded.

Gunfire erupted.

Two people — a father and his son — were killed.

Another man was left seriously wounded.

And within a short time, a quiet hunting area had become a major crime scene.

Authorities are continuing their technical investigation and questioning witnesses as they work to establish exactly what happened and why.

Local officials have described the incident as a deeply tragic event for the community, while a crisis response team has been activated to support those affected.

ONE MORNING. ONE CONFLICT. THREE VICTIMS.

For now, police believe they may have identified the motive — but the full story behind the conflict remains unclear.

What happened between the suspect and the hunting group before the shots were fired?

And what could have turned a routine morning in the Norwegian woods into a deadly confrontation?

🔎 The investigation is still unfolding.
