Bodycam Captures Flood Rescue: Tiny Orange Kitten Lifted From a Tree Fork Above a Drowned Neighborhood Street

Chest-mounted camera footage timestamped 2024-09-29 15:37:12 shows a flood rescuer wading to a rain-soaked tree in a flooded residential neighborhood and gently lifting a tiny soaked orange tabby kitten from the fork of the branches, with rescue boats working the street behind him.

The 15-second clip opens exactly as the still photograph did: the kitten is wedged into the fork of the tree, its orange fur plastered flat by the rain, its huge eyes fixed on the camera and one small paw gripping the wet bark. Below the branches there is no street left to stand on, only brown floodwater moving past single-story houses, utility poles and floating debris, while rescue boats with emergency crews idle slowly along the drowned road in the gray distance.

The rescuer, in a red waterproof flood jacket with reflective stripes, thick black gloves and a harness hung with carabiners and utility clips, keeps one hand braced against the trunk and reaches the other up slowly, palm open, giving the kitten time to see it coming. The kitten blinks the rain out of its eyes, twitches its ears, and leans a fraction toward the glove instead of away from it.

Then both hands close in with practiced care. One supports the kitten beneath its chest, the other slides under its hindquarters, and for a moment one tiny paw keeps hold of the bark before letting go on its own. Water shakes loose from the sodden orange fur as the kitten comes clear of the branch, fully supported, never dangling.

The closing seconds are the quietest of the clip. The kitten is held low and secure in both gloved hands against the red jacket, looking down and then toward the camera with visibly calmer eyes, the flooded street and the waiting rescue boats still spread out behind. The tree that was its only refuge is left empty.

There is no music and no narration on the footage, only what the bodycam picked up: rainfall striking the leaves, floodwater moving around the trunk, distant outboard engines, faint emergency voices far down the street, wet fabric shifting, and the kitten’s soft meows.
