Bodycam Captures Flood Rescue: Tiny Gray Tabby Kitten Lifted From a Tree Trunk Above a Drowned Neighborhood

Chest-mounted camera footage timestamped 2024-09-27 14:32:16 shows a rope-secured flood rescuer high on a rain-soaked tree trunk above a flooded residential neighborhood, gently freeing a tiny soaked gray tabby kitten from the wet bark and lowering it into the red rescue pouch on his harness, with rescue boats working the streets below.

The 15-second clip opens exactly as the still photograph did: the kitten is pressed against the trunk, its gray-and-black striped fur soaked flat, its tiny muddy paws gripping the rough bark and its large greenish eyes fixed on the camera. Below the branches there is no street left, only muddy floodwater surrounding small houses, a partially submerged car and tall wet trees, while rescue boats carrying emergency personnel move slowly through the neighborhood in the gray rain.

The rescuer, in a bright red waterproof jacket, thick black waterproof gloves, black rescue pants and a professional climbing harness with ropes and metal carabiners, stays clipped to the tree throughout. His left hand keeps its hold on the trunk while his right hand rises slowly toward the kitten, giving it time to see the glove coming. The kitten blinks, grips the bark tighter for a moment, and twitches its ears as the rain keeps falling.

Then both hands take its weight with practiced care. One supports the kitten beneath its chest, the other beneath its hindquarters, easing its paws free of the bark without pulling. The kitten lets out a soft meow, nervous but cooperative, as it comes clear of the trunk, fully supported in both hands with water dripping from its whiskers and fur.

The closing seconds stay in the same first-person view. Still secured in place on the tree, the rescuer draws the kitten downward and lowers it gently into the small open red pouch attached to his harness, low in the frame. The kitten settles inside and looks out with wide eyes, the trunk beside them and the flooded neighborhood still spread out behind, as the rescuer prepares to descend.

There is no music and no narration on the footage, only what the bodycam picked up: heavy rain striking the leaves, wind through the branches, floodwater flowing far below, distant rescue boat engines, rope friction, metal safety clips shifting, faint emergency radio sounds, and the kitten’s soft meowing.
