COUPLE SPOTS CAR ENGULFED IN FLAMES — MOMENTS LATER, THEY DISCOVER A WOMAN HAS BEEN SHOT IN THE HEAD

A couple driving through Louisville, Kentucky, reportedly noticed a vehicle engulfed in flames when they suddenly heard a loud bang. Moments later, they realized the woman had been shot in the head, while the man had also suffered a gunshot wound to his arm. Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to police reports cited by Law&Crime, the incident happened on the evening of July 8 near Poplar Level Road and East Indian Trail. The couple said they were passing the burning vehicle when the gunfire struck them. Despite their injuries, they managed to reach a residence on Twin Oak Lane, where officers later caught up with them at around 9 p.m.

Although the victims’ injuries initially appeared to be non-life-threatening, court records reportedly revealed that the woman had a bullet lodged permanently in her skull. The circumstances surrounding the shooting raised questions about whether the victims were deliberately targeted or caught in the middle of another incident.

Investigators later identified Gabriel Eduardo Rodriguez, 19, as a suspect. Police reportedly located a vehicle connected to the investigation and subsequently searched Rodriguez’s residence, where they seized a handgun believed to be stolen. Authorities allege that Rodriguez was driving a second vehicle involved in the shooting.

Rodriguez faces multiple charges, including first- and second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment involving the discharge of a firearm, and receiving a stolen firearm. He pleaded not guilty at an initial court appearance and was released on a partially secured $25,000 bond, with conditions prohibiting him from possessing weapons or contacting the victims and witnesses.

Authorities have not publicly established a motive for the shooting, and it remains unclear why several months passed before charges were filed. The investigation and court proceedings are ongoing, and the allegations against Rodriguez have not been proven in court.
